Alex Ovechkin continues his chase for Wayne Gretzky’s goal-scoring record, netting his 32nd career hat trick to lead the Washington Capitals to a 7-3 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.
Ovechkin’s goals (880, 881, and 882) put him just 13 shy of passing Gretzky’s all-time mark (894). It was also the 178th multi-goal game of his career.
Dylan Strome added a goal and two assists, while Tom Wilson and Jakob Chychrun each tallied a goal and an assist for Washington. The Capitals (84 points) now lead the NHL in points, jumping ahead of Winnipeg.
For Edmonton, Leon Draisaitl scored his league-leading 42nd goal, but the Oilers dropped their third straight game.

Jason Robertson erupted for a hat trick in a nine-minute span of the second period, leading the Dallas Stars to a 4-3 road win over the New York Islanders.
Robertson’s fourth career regular-season hat trick helped Dallas complete a back-to-back sweep, following Saturday’s 4-2 win over New Jersey. The Stars are 8-1-1 in their last 10 games.
The Islanders have now lost three straight and sit five points out of a playoff spot.

Adam Fox scored the game-winning goal with 8:34 left, and the New York Rangers rallied past the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-3.
Fox added an assist, J.T. Miller scored twice, and Igor Shesterkin made 36 saves as the Rangers won for the fourth time in six games.
For Pittsburgh, Ryan Shea scored twice, but the Penguins dropped their third straight.
