Randy Vega converted a penalty kick in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time, giving visiting Herediano a 2-1 victory (2-1 aggregate) over Real Salt Lake in Sandy, Utah, on Wednesday. Vega drew a foul from Rafael Cabral in the penalty area, setting up the decisive PK just two minutes after Elias Aguilar’s 70th-minute equalizer erased Real Salt Lake’s 1-0 lead. Forster Ajago struck in the 26th minute for Salt Lake, finishing a team counter with a 12-yard shot. Herediano moves on to face the reigning MLS Cup champion Los Angeles Galaxy in the round of 16.

FC Cincinnati 1, Motagua 1

Kevin Denkey’s 19th-minute strike sealed a 5-2 aggregate triumph for FC Cincinnati over visiting Motagua in Champions Cup action. Motagua claimed an early lead when Rodrigo Auzmendi volleyed a cross from Jonathan Nunez in the ninth minute. Ten minutes later, Corey Baird powered through midfield and fed Denkey, who slotted a right-footed shot into the bottom right corner to salvage a draw on the night. FC Cincinnati, having won the first leg 4-1 in Honduras, advances to face Tigres UANL in the next round.
