NHL roundup: Lightning rebound with blowout of Jackets

Lightning 6, Blue Jackets 2

Victor Hedman and Jake Guentzel each posted two goals and an assist, and the Tampa Bay Lightning rebounded from having their win streak ended the night before by beating visiting Columbus. Nikita Kucherov added a goal and two assists, Mitchell Chaffee also scored, and Brayden Point plus Darren Raddysh both had two assists in Tampa Bay’s sixth straight home triumph. Jonas Johansson (30 saves) helped the Lightning move to 9-1-1 since early February.
Zach Werenski notched a pair of goals (one even-strength, one short-handed), tying his own Columbus franchise record for goals by a defenseman (20). Elvis Merzlikins stopped 34 shots as the Blue Jackets fell after four consecutive victories.


Hurricanes 2, Red Wings 1

Jordan Martinook recorded a goal and an assist in Carolina’s road win at Detroit. Jordan Staal also scored, while Frederik Andersen made 24 saves as the Hurricanes claimed their third victory in four games. Elmer Soderblom tallied for the Red Wings, who have dropped three straight after a 9-1-1 stretch. Detroit’s Alex Lyon stopped 28 shots.


Islanders 3, Jets 2

Kyle Palmieri and Brock Nelson each netted their 20th of the season to help host New York narrowly beat Winnipeg. Ryan Pulock also scored the game-winner in the third period as the Islanders pulled within three points of a wild-card berth in the East. Ilya Sorokin made 26 saves as the Isles improved to 3-1-0 in their last four. Josh Morrissey and Nikolaj Ehlers scored power-play goals for the NHL-leading Jets, who have lost three in a row (0-2-1). Connor Hellebuyck turned aside 26 shots.


Wild 4, Kraken 3

Jared Spurgeon, Mats Zuccarello, and Frederick Gaudreau each had a goal and an assist, and Filip Gustavsson made 33 saves to lift Minnesota in Seattle. Vinnie Hinostroza also scored, and Marcus Johansson contributed two assists for the Wild, winners in two straight following a three-game skid. Seattle got goals from Adam Larsson, Shane Wright, and Brandon Montour, but dropped three of its last four. Joey Daccord surrendered four goals on 20 shots.


Ducks 6, Oilers 2

Mason McTavish’s two goals paced Anaheim in a decisive road victory over Edmonton. Sam Colangelo and Leo Carlsson each had a goal and an assist, Jackson LaCombe and Cutter Gauthier both logged three assists, and Lukas Dostal turned aside 32 shots for the Ducks, who snapped a 1-2-1 skid. Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid notched a goal and an assist apiece for Edmonton, losers of six of seven (1-6-0). Calvin Pickard was replaced after allowing four first-period goals on 11 shots.


Predators 6, Bruins 3

Jonathan Marchessault and Ryan O’Reilly scored in a 63-second span of the third period, breaking a 3-3 deadlock and helping visiting Nashville topple Boston. O’Reilly ended with two goals and an assist, Steven Stamkos (one goal, two assists) also had three points, while Tommy Novak, Mark Jankowski, and Luke Evangelista chipped in offensively for the Predators (7-20-4 on the road). Juuse Saros made 18 saves. Charlie Coyle, Jordan Oesterle, and Morgan Geekie scored for the Bruins, who have lost five of their last eight (1-5-2).

Sharks 6, Sabres 2

William Eklund, Will Smith, Tyler Toffoli, and Timothy Liljegren each had a goal and an assist to power San Jose past host Buffalo. Nico Sturm and Macklin Celebrini added goals as the Sharks posted back-to-back wins after an eight-game losing streak (0-5-3). Alexandar Georgiev made 20 saves. JJ Peterka (goal, assist) and Tage Thompson (goal) accounted for Buffalo’s offense. The Sabres dropped their fourth in a row (0-3-1).


Stars 4, Devils 3

Thomas Harley’s goal with under five seconds left in regulation secured a home victory for Dallas, which saw its two-goal lead evaporate earlier in the third. Roope Hintz (one goal, two assists), Wyatt Johnston (goal, assist), and Ilya Lyubushkin (goal) helped the Stars pick up their third consecutive win. Casey DeSmith stopped 25 of 28 shots for Dallas. Timo Meier and Nico Hischier each had a goal and assist for New Jersey, while Brett Pesce also scored. Jacob Markstrom turned away 17 of 21 shots.


Avalanche 4, Penguins 1

Artturi Lehkonen scored twice and Casey Mittelstadt provided the go-ahead goal with 4:09 left as Colorado topped visiting Pittsburgh. Jack Drury also scored, Nathan MacKinnon dished two assists, and Scott Wedgewood made 32 saves for the Avs, winners of three straight on their six-game homestand. Rickard Rakell supplied the lone Penguins goal, and Alex Nedeljkovic finished with 21 saves, as Pittsburgh slid to 0-2-1 in its past three.
