Red Sox Power Past Marlins with Six Home Runs

Trevor Story homered twice as the Boston Red Sox crushed the Miami Marlins 20-5 in a spring training game Thursday in Fort Myers, Florida. Boston’s offense was unstoppable, scoring in every inning they came to the plate.

Story finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored, while Alex Bregman, Trayce Thompson, and Nate Eaton also went deep. Walker Buehler earned the win after allowing just one run in three innings.

Jack Winkler provided Miami’s biggest highlight with a three-run homer, while starter Edward Cabrera struggled, surrendering six runs in just 1 2/3 innings.

Twins Split Squads Deliver Mixed Results

A Minnesota Twins split squad defeated the Atlanta Braves 7-1 in Fort Myers, Florida. Willi Castro doubled twice and scored a run, while Ty France and Ryan Jeffers each recorded two hits and an RBI.

Bailey Ober fanned five batters and allowed just one run in four innings for the Twins. Braves starter Reynaldo López struggled, giving up five runs (three earned) in 3 1/3 innings, while Jarred Kelenic homered for Atlanta’s only run.

Meanwhile, in Port Charlotte, Florida, another Twins split squad played to a 9-9 tie with the Tampa Bay Rays. Minnesota built an 8-1 lead before Tampa Bay rallied to take a 9-8 lead in the seventh inning behind a two-run double from Jake Mangum.

Kevin Maitan’s RBI groundout in the ninth tied the game, while Jonathan Aranda also knocked in two runs for the Rays. Travis Adams was charged with a blown save but pitched three scoreless innings for the Twins.

Pirates Edge Phillies Behind Jared Jones’ Strong Start

Jared Jones struck out six batters in three innings, allowing just one run, as the Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Philadelphia Phillies 3-2 in Bradenton, Florida.

Ji Hwan Bae recorded two hits and stole two bases, while Eddy Yean secured a two-inning save for the Pirates.

Kody Clemens homered for the Phillies, and Otto Kemp added an RBI double. Starter Cristopher Sánchez gave up one run in three innings.

Royals Roll Past Angels in Rain-Shortened Game

Bobby Witt Jr. launched a two-run homer in the first inning, setting the tone for the Kansas City Royals’ 8-2 win over a Los Angeles Angels split squad in Surprise, Arizona.

Hunter Renfroe, Peyton Wilson, Vinnie Pasquantino, and Brian O’Keefe also homered for the Royals before the game was called after six innings due to rain.

Tim Anderson and Nolan Schanuel each went 2-for-3 for the Angels.

Guardians Crush Athletics with Six-Run First Inning

Cleveland exploded for six first-inning runs and never looked back in a 12-5 rout of the Oakland Athletics in Mesa, Arizona.

Austin Hedges, Tyler Freeman, and Daniel Schneemann each homered and collected two hits for the Guardians, while Joey Cantillo threw three scoreless innings.

Miguel Andujar led the A’s with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, but starter Osvaldo Bido struggled, allowing eight runs on nine hits in just 3 1/3 innings.

Tigers Outslug Orioles in High-Scoring Affair

Spencer Torkelson went deep twice and added a single as the Detroit Tigers outpaced the Baltimore Orioles 11-7 in Lakeland, Florida.

Gleyber Torres and Andrew Navigato also homered for Detroit, while Casey Mize struck out five in a three-inning relief stint without allowing a run.

Sam Basallo’s three-run triple highlighted the Orioles’ offense. Dean Kremer struggled, allowing six runs on six hits in just over three innings.

Cardinals Hold Off Astros with Catchers Leading the Way

Catchers Ivan Herrera and Leonardo Bernal homered, helping the St. Louis Cardinals secure a 6-4 victory over the Houston Astros in Jupiter, Florida.

Herrera added a double, while the Cardinals’ defense turned four double plays. Starter Miles Mikolas allowed two runs over four innings.

Jake Meyers went 2-for-2 for Houston, while Spencer Arrighetti walked four batters but surrendered just one run in two innings.

Nationals Edge Mets with Home Run Power

CJ Abrams hit a solo homer and an RBI single, leading the Washington Nationals to a 5-4 win over the New York Mets in West Palm Beach, Florida.

James Wood also homered for Washington, while Trevor Williams allowed just one run in four innings.

Jose Azocar collected two hits and an RBI for the Mets. Paul Blackburn struggled, yielding three runs on five hits in 2 1/3 innings.

Yankees Walk Off Against Blue Jays

Cole Gabrielson’s two-run double in the bottom of the ninth lifted the New York Yankees to an 8-7 win over the Toronto Blue Jays in Tampa, Florida.

Toronto led 5-3 in the eighth inning before the Yankees rallied to take a 6-5 lead. The Blue Jays reclaimed the lead in the ninth, scoring twice on an error, before Gabrielson’s clutch hit sealed the walk-off win.

Cody Bellinger, Everson Pereira, and Austin Wells homered for New York, while Nathan Lukes went deep for Toronto.

Spring Training Rainouts

Five games scheduled for Friday were canceled due to rain, including:

  • Chicago Cubs vs. Chicago White Sox (Phoenix, AZ)
  • San Francisco Giants vs. Cincinnati Reds (Goodyear, AZ)
  • Arizona Diamondbacks vs. Los Angeles Angels (Tempe, AZ)
  • San Diego Padres vs. Milwaukee Brewers (Phoenix, AZ)
  • Texas Rangers vs. Colorado Rockies (Scottsdale, AZ)

None of the games will be rescheduled.
