Pegula Wins First Clay Title in Charleston; Osorio Reigns Again in Bogota

Jessica Pegula continued her red-hot run on the WTA Tour, capturing her first career clay-court title at the Charleston Open on Sunday with a gritty 6-3, 7-5 win over fellow American Sofia Kenin.

In Bogota, Colombia, hometown favorite Camila Osorio defended her title in dominant fashion at the Copa Colsanitas Zurich, defeating Katarzyna Kawa in straight sets for her third WTA career title — all on the same red dirt.

Charleston Open: Pegula Battles Back to Beat Kenin

Pegula, the top seed in Charleston, looked poised early, breaking Kenin’s serve three times in the first set to grab momentum.

But the 31-year-old veteran had to dig deep in the second. She dropped three straight service games, falling behind 4-1, and later faced three set points down 5-2. Pegula saved all of them, then flipped the script with three consecutive breaks of her own to steal the second set 7-5 and close out the match.

  • Pegula’s record now stands at 17-2 in her last four events.
  • This was her second title of 2024 and eighth career title overall.
  • It also marked her first WTA title on clay.

The win follows a tough final-round loss to Aryna Sabalenka in Miami — one Pegula has clearly bounced back from with confidence.

Copa Colsanitas Zurich: Osorio Dominates Again on Home Soil

In Bogota, Camila Osorio remained untouchable on Colombian clay. The 23-year-old captured her third WTA title — all at this event — with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Poland’s Katarzyna Kawa.

  • Osorio won this same tournament in 2021 and earlier in 2024.
  • She saved 6 of 8 break points and controlled the match from the start.
  • Her first-serve numbers (71.4%) were key to dictating tempo on a slower surface.

Kawa, appearing in just her second WTA final, was hoping for her first tour-level title but never quite settled. After losing her first two service games, she found herself chasing from behind the entire match.
