MLS Soccer Roundup – What Happened Last Weekend? 

St. Louis City SC claimed a 1-0 victory over Toronto FC to open up a three-point lead atop the Western Conference on Saturday. Over in the Eastern Conference, FC Cincinnati remains seven points clear at the summit, despite a 2-2 draw with Charlotte FC last time out. 

Inter Miami’s winless streak in the league now stands at 10 games following a draw with DC United, while Real Salt Lake and LA Galaxy both extended their unbeaten runs in MLS soccer to seven matches. 

Now that you’re up to speed on all the key talking points from the weekend, it’s time to look ahead to the midweek action. Join me as I share my MLS soccer picks and predictions for Wednesday, July 12, starting with the clash between the New York Red Bulls and FC Cincinnati.

New York Red Bulls vs. FC Cincinnati Prediction 

As I already mentioned, FC Cincinnati holds a seven-point lead at the top of the Eastern Conference. Trailing the Ohio outfit by 19 points, the New York Red Bulls find themselves 10th in the standings.

That said, the Red Bulls have won two of their last three outings, while Cincinnati heads into Wednesday’s showdown on a three-game winless run. Consequently, we should see a close-fought battle at Red Bull Arena.

New England Revolution vs. Atlanta United Prediction 

The New England Revolution and Atlanta United have both taken 10 points from their past five matches, recording three wins, one draw and one loss. On top of that, both teams have been involved in lots of high-scoring clashes. 

This season, games involving Atlanta average 3.4 goals, while games involving New England average three goals. For that reason, I’m backing the Revs and the Five Stripes to combine for over 2.5 goals on Wednesday.

Sporting Kansas City vs. Real Salt Lake MLS Soccer Prediction 

10th-placed Sporting Kansas City trails fourth-placed Real Salt Lake by eight points in the Western Conference standings. RSL has suffered a solitary defeat in 11 MLS soccer matches, picking up six wins and four draws along the way. 

Having won five of their last seven home league games, Peter Vermes’ men are favored to triumph at Children’s Mercy Park. But in-form Real Salt Lake will be confident of upsetting the odds.

Nashville SC vs. Philadelphia Union Prediction 

Although Nashville SC has struggled in recent weeks – suffering three defeats in four outings – the team from Tennessee has remained unstoppable on home soil. Not only have the Boys in Gold won each of their last six home league games, but they have also scored 16 goals in the process. 

On the flip side, the Philadelphia Union has taken just one point from their past four MLS soccer road games. Since Philly has struggled on the road throughout the season, I’m confident that Nashville will extend their winning streak at Geodis Park. 

Best Bet: Nashville SC (+111) 

Houston Dynamo vs. Minnesota United Prediction 

The Houston Dynamo and Minnesota United are separated by only four points in the West, with eighth-placed Houston leading 11th-placed Minnesota. Both sides have struggled for consistency this year, meaning Wednesday’s showdown is destined to be a tight affair.

Chicago Fire vs. CF Montreal MLS Soccer Prediction 

Over in the Eastern Conference, Chicago Fire and CF Montreal are locked on 26 points. That said, Chicago enters the midweek action on a run of three victories in four outings, so the Canadians will need to be at their best to halt the Fire’s hot streak.

Los Angeles FC vs. St. Louis City SC Prediction 

What has happened to Los Angeles FC? The reigning MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield champion has recorded two wins, two draws and five losses across the past nine league games. St. Louis City SC has notched three successive victories. Ultimately, it is difficult to predict how Wednesday’s clash will unfold.

San Jose Earthquakes vs. Seattle Sounders Prediction 

Thanks to back-to-back wins, the Seattle Sounders find themselves second in the Western Conference. On the flip side, the San Jose Earthquakes occupy seventh place after failing to win any of their previous five games. With that in mind, Seattle’s price of +160 is too attractive to ignore.

Best Bet: Seattle Sounders (+160) 

Vancouver Whitecaps vs. Austin FC Prediction 

While the Vancouver Whitecaps have managed to win just one of their last five MLS soccer matches, Austin FC has claimed three victories across the previous four games. With that home-field advantage on their side, the Caps will be hopeful of picking up a positive result, but Austin will have other ideas.
