The 2023 Canadian Open is here, and I have some National Bank Open picks for you. Branded as the National Bank Open Presented by Rogers, this year’s Canadian Open serves up lots of exciting betting opportunities.
Spain’s Pablo Carreno Busta is the reigning men’s singles champion, while Belgium’s Simona Halep is the reigning women’s singles champion. However, Carreno Busta is out injured, while Halep is suspended for violations of anti-doping rules.
As a result, Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek are favored to triumph in Canada. I will provide my pick for the winner of both the men’s and women’s singles events, in addition to a handful of National Bank Open picks for upcoming matches.
2023 National Bank Open Preview
- When: August 5-13
- Where: Sobeys Stadium (Toronto) / IGA Stadium (Montreal)
- Surface: Outdoor Hardcourt
- Prize Money: $6.6m (Men) / $2.8m (Women)
The 2023 Canadian Open will take place between August 5 and August 13. The men’s event will be held at Sobeys Stadium in Toronto, Ontario, while the women’s event will be staged at IGA Stadium in Montreal, Quebec.
This hardcourt tournament is a mandatory Masters 1000 event on the 2023 ATP Tour and a non-mandatory WTA 1000 event on the 2023 WTA Tour. The combined prize pool is just over $9.4m, giving players an incentive to perform to the best of their ability.
You will be pleased to learn that I will provide my National Bank Open picks a little later. First, it’s time to go over the latest outright odds for both singles events.
Outright Odds for the National Bank Open
The bookies have released their outright odds for the 2023 Canadian Open, with prices for both the men’s and women’s singles events on offer. Let’s start with the men’s singles before taking a closer look at the women’s singles odds.
NATIONAL BANK OPEN OUTRIGHT ODDS (MEN’S SINGLES)
- Carlos Alcaraz (+125)
- Daniil Medvedev (+375)
- Jannik Sinner (+850)
- Stefanos Tsitsipas (+950)
- Alexander Zverez (+1150)
- Andrey Rublev (+1350)
- Taylor Fritz (+1550)
- Holger Rune (+1750)
- Casper Ruud (+3500)
- Frances Tiafoe (+3500)
As you can see, Carlos Alcaraz (+125) is the bookies’ favorite for the men’s singles event. Fresh from defeating Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon final, Alcaraz will be confident of going all the way in Canada.
Daniil Medvedev (+375) is seen as Alcaraz’s main challenger, while Jannik Sinner (+850) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (+950) are the only other players priced under +1000. Alexander Zverev (+1150), who won the 2017 Canadian Open, completes the top five.
Those looking for value may also want to keep an eye on Casper Ruud (+3500). The 24-year-old Norwegian reached the finals of both the French Open and US Open in 2022 before reaching back-to-back French Open finals earlier this year.
NATIONAL BANK OPEN OUTRIGHT ODDS (WOMEN’S SINGLES)
- Iga Swiatek (+165)
- Arnya Sabalenka (+300)
- Elena Rybakina (+400)
- Jessica Pegula (+950)
- Coca Gaudd (+1150)
- Marketa Vondrousova (+2000)
- Karolina Muchova (+2300)
- Elina Svitolina (+2800)
- Madison Keys (+2800)
- Maria Sakkari (+2800)
If you already know a thing or two about tennis, you probably won’t be surprised that Iga Swiatek (+165) is the favorite to win the women’s event. After all, the 22-year-old Pole has triumphed at three of the previous six Grand Slams.
That said, the bookies believe that Arnya Sabalenka (+300) and Elena Rybakina (+400) both stand a real chance of outperforming the world number one. Marketa Vondrousova (+2000) will also fancy her chances of winning, having lifted the Wimbledon trophy last month.
Without further ado, here are my recommended National Bank Open Picks.

Top National Bank Open Picks
Having assessed the outright odds, I will now share my National Bank Open picks for the winner of both the men’s and women’s singles events. Alcaraz and Swiatek are favored to triumph in Canada, but there are plenty of other players in contention for the titles.
Not only will I share my outright National Bank Open picks, but I will also share a handful of recommended bets for upcoming matches. With several high-profile clashes taking place in the coming days, there is no shortage of value on offer.
Let’s begin with my outright National Bank Open picks before moving on to the individual match picks. I will also provide some 2023 Canadian Open predictions along the way, offering extra betting advice.
Men’s Singles Outright Winner
At just 20 years of age, Carlos Alcaraz is widely regarded as the best men’s singles player on the planet right now. Of course, Novak Djokovic is still around, but Alcaraz signaled a changing of the guard when he defeated Djokovic in last month’s Wimbledon final.
After winning the 2022 US Open title, Alcaraz reached the semifinals of the 2023 French Open before triumphing at Wimbledon. Accordingly, the young Spaniard is the bookies’ favorite to clinch the title in Canada.
Daniil Medvedev is the bookies’ second favorite, but Alcaraz made light work of the Russian in the Wimbledon semifinals, winning 6-3, 6-3, 6-3. With that in mind, Alcaraz has to be viewed as the best bet for the National Bank Open.
Best Bet: Carlos Alcaraz (+125)
Women’s Singles Outright Winner
The bookies believe that the women’s singles event will be much tighter than the men’s singles event. With the top three favorites priced between +165 and +400, Iga Swiatek will face stiff competition from Arnya Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina.
However, the top three favorites won’t have it all their own way in Canada. Jessica Pegula, Elina Svitolina and Madison Keys all reached the quarterfinals at Wimbledon last month, while Marketa Vondrousova – who is priced at +2000 to triumph in Canada – lifted the trophy in London.
In my eyes, the women’s singles event is wide open. Yes, Swiatek is favored to secure the silverware in Montreal, but there are plenty of other serious contenders for the crown.

Upcoming Matches – More National Bank Open Picks
Now that you’ve had my National Bank Open picks and predictions for the outright markets, I want to share some match picks with you. We have a long way to go until the finals this weekend, so let’s attempt to make some money in the meantime.
Please note that all the featured matches are scheduled to take place on Tuesday, August 8. I have decided to include two men’s singles picks and two women’s singles picks, giving you several options to choose from.
Here are my recommended National Bank Open picks for Tuesday.
- Gabriel Diallo (+126) vs. Dan Evans (-175) – Best Bet: Dan Evans (-175)
- Ben Shelton (-400) vs. Bernabe Zapata Miralles (+260) – Best Bet: SIGN IN TO ACCESS PICK
- Anastasia Potapova (+137) vs. Karolina Muchova (-192) – Best Bet: SIGN IN TO ACCESS PICK
- Elina Svitolina (-196) vs. Danielle Collins (+138) – Best Bet: SIGN IN TO ACCESS PICK
Fresh from winning his first ATP 500 title, Dan Evans will be brimming with belief ahead of his showdown with Gabriel Diallo. The Brit defeated Tallon Griekspoor in the Citi Open final, and I expect him to back up that victory with another win against Diallo.
The moneyline odds suggest that the match between Ben Shelton and Bernabe Zapata Miralles will be a one-sided affair, but Zapata Miralles made it all the way to the Iasi Open last month, suggesting that he could upset the odds in Canada.
The clash between Anastasia Potapova and Karolina Muchova also looks set to be an intriguing encounter. Muchova is the bookies’ favorite, but Potapova has already produced several impressive results this year.
The last of my National Bank Open picks concerns the match between Elina Svitolina and Danielle Collins. Having reached the Wimbledon semifinals, Svitolina will be confident of dispatching Collins, but the American has the potential to spring a surprise.
