The 2022/23 PGA Tour concluded last week with the ending of the Tour Championship so we are bringing you our 2023 PGA season wrap-up. We have had some wonderful golf over the last year which all came down to the final FedEx Cup playoff event last weekend.
Viktor Hovland was crowned the FedEx Cup champion after his stellar performance in Georgia at the Tour Championship. That capped off a stunning year of golf that included 47 official events. From new major champions, and record prize money with elevated purses, to comeback players, the 2022/23 PGA Tour has had it all. Let’s get into my 2023 PGA season wrap-up.
2023 Tour Championship & FedEx Cup Results
My 2023 PGA season wrap-up will start with a Tour Championship recap. Securing back-to-back tournament victories to win the 2023 FedEx Cup, Hovland clutched up when it mattered to take home the trophy. The Norwegian played some stunning golf to cap off the season, firstly by winning the BMW Championship. He shot -9 in the final round to beat Matt Fitzpatrick and Scottie Scheffler.
Hovland’s stunning win at Olympia Fields’ North Course set him up for a final showdown in the Tour Championship. He unduly delivered too, despite starting two shots behind Scheffler due to the FedEx Cup Starting Strokes. Hovland won with a score of -27, beating Xander Schauffele by five shots. That saw him crowned the 2023 FedEx Cup champion.
My Tour Championship picks hit too! I had Hovland as one of my outright winners with the handicap in play so that gave me some nice profits. I also selected Schauffele for a top 5 finish and he put in a fantastic performance. That will set me up nicely before the new PGA Tour season starts.
Be sure to check out my handicapper page, Ashlee Kiddell, where I will be giving my picks for the 2024 PGA Tour.

2023 PGA Season Wrap-Up – Top Golfers
A host of top golfers have been on show over the course of the season. That includes stunning performances, consistent displays, and brand-new champions. The PGA Tour really is home to world-class golfers.
Next up in my 2023 PGA season wrap-up, I will take you through some of the individual highlights from the tour. Scheffler was one of the most consistent performers on the PGA Tour and had some incredible stats to show for it.
Meanwhile, Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman saw newfound glory in the biggest events on the tour. Those victories will stay in their memories for the rest of their lives. We also saw some amazing comebacks this season.
Scottie Scheffler leading the way
Scheffler has had some incredible performances. He led the way in scoring average with a score of 68.63 which has only ever been bettered by Tiger Woods. Scheffler also came out on top in terms of SG: Total, SG: Tee-to-Green, SG: Off-the-Tee, and SG: Approach the green. However, it was his putting that let him down as he ranked 150th for SG: Putting.
Tournament victories for Scheffler came towards the beginning of 2023. First off, he won the WM Phoenix Open back in February. He managed a final score of -19 to beat Nick Taylor by two shots at TPC Scottsdale.
However, the highlight triumph came at the Players Championship in March. That was his maiden victory in the Players Championship, beating Tyrell Hatton by five shots at TPC Sawgrass. With 17 top-10 finishes on the tour, Scheffler proved his consistency throughout the year.
New major champions Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman
Both Clark and Harman won their first-ever majors during the 2022/23 PGA Tour. The former started with a U.S. Open triumph, despite never finishing higher than 75th in a major championship. The latter was the victor of the Open Championship and his first on the PGA Tour in six years.
They were huge underdogs heading into the tournaments and yet managed to pull off incredible victories. Everybody loves an underdog story.
Clark was able to win the U.S. Open despite missing the cut in each of his last two attempts. He would win the championship by just one shot, beating Rory McIlroy who finished second.
As for Harman, the 36-year-old finally secured his first major championship victory at the Open. He was able to beat Jason Day, Tom Kim, Jon Rahm, and Sepp Straka by six shots at Royal Liverpool.
Comeback years for Rickie Fowler & Jason Day
Not only does everyone love an underdog story, but everyone also loves a comeback story. That’s where we are heading next in our 2023 PGA season wrap-up. Although Rickie Fowler and Jason Day’s comebacks aren’t on the same magnitude as Tiger Woods’ incredible 2019 Masters victory, it was still great to see them back winning on the PGA Tour.
Day won the AT&T Byron Nelson back in May by one stroke. He finished ahead of both Austin Eckroat and Kim Si-woo to find his first win in five years. The Australian also finished as runner-up at the Open Championship.
Winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic, Fowler was able to enjoy success once more this season. He did so in dramatic fashion too, defeating Adam Hadwin and Collin Morikawa in a playoff. That was his first win on the PGA Tour since 2019. Finishing inside the top ten in terms of scoring average, Fowler proved he still has what it takes.
2023 PGA Season Wrap-Up – Golf Isn’t Over Yet!
Although the 2022/23 PGA Tour is over, we still have plenty of golf on display before the 2024 PGA Tour season begins. My 2023 PGA season wrap-up will take a look at the rest of the golf on show, including the LPGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions, the Korn Ferry Tour, and LIV Golf.
LPGA Tour
We still have the rest of the 2023 LPGA Tour to finish with a host of events still to come. Megan Khang recorded her first-ever LPGA Tour win in the latest tournament, the CPKC Women’s Open. The tour concludes with the CME Group Tour Championship in November.
Look out for the Solheim Cup too as the United States tries to win the tournament back off of Europe. The 2023 Solheim Cup will be held from September 22-24.
PGA Tour Champions
The 2023 PGA Tour Champions remain in action as golfers aged 50 or over compete. It will conclude with the Charles Schwab Cup, with the first playoff event scheduled for October 22. Five tournaments are left before the first playoff event. Next up is the Ascension Charity Classic, beginning September 10.
Korn Ferry Tour
The finals of the Korn Ferry Tour have gotten underway as well. The Korn Ferry Tour is for developmental golfers. Those in the top 30 of the money list by the end of the tour are permitted entry into the PGA Tour.
The finals began with the Albertsons Boise Open as Chan Kim was crowned the winner, picking up his second straight Korn Ferry Tour triumph. With three tournaments left to go before the end of the tour, golf fans have plenty of drama left to watch. The Korn Ferry Tour ends with the Korn Ferry Tour Championship which will start on October 5.
2023 LIV Golf League
Of course, we can’t forget about the 2023 LIV Golf League. There are three events still to take place this season. The LIV Golf Invitational Chicago will be held on September 24. Cameron Smith currently leads the way in the individual points standings, whilst 4 Aces GC tops the team standings.
It was announced back in June that the PGA Tour will merge with LIV Golf, which is backed by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund. LIV Golf has been under scrutiny since its inception in 2022. It has been luring top golfers from the PGA Tour over to the new league. Many believe this to be a form of “sportswashing” due to Saudi Arabia’s history of human rights violations.
As a result of the merger, those who were suspended by the PGA Tour for joining LIV will be able to re-apply for membership now that the 2022/23 season has drawn to a close.
