NCAA Football Week 1 Report – Game of the Week

• Game of the Week: Colorado (45) vs. #17 TCU (42)

Unless you’re living under a rock, you’ve heard about Colorado upsetting #17 TCU. The Buffaloes went 1-11 last season and were +20.5 underdogs in Week 1, but that didn’t stop them from winning.

Travis Hunter entered Heisman Trophy discussions with an incredible performance on both sides of the football. Hunter hauled in 11 receptions for 119 yards and he also had an interception on defense. Dylan Edwards scored four touchdowns (TDs), while Shedeur Sanders threw for 510 yards and 4 TDs.

The Coach Prime hype train has entered uncharted territory with the upset victory on the road.

Here are some of the other biggest storylines we included in our NCAA football Week 1 report:

• Boise State (19) vs. #10 Washington (56): Michael Penix Jr. threw for 450 yards and 5 TDs, as the Huskies pulled away late and easily covered the -14 point spread.

• Florida (11) vs. #14 Utah (24): The Utes are dominant at home. Utah have won 15 consecutive home games and they defeated the Gators without starting QB Cameron Rising.

• West Virginia (15) vs. #7 Penn State (38): QB concerns for Penn State have been eased, as Drew Allar went 21/29 for 325 yards and 3 TDs in a dominating home win. However, it took a last-second touchdown for the Nittany Lions to cover the -21 point spread.

• Louisville (39) vs. Georgia Tech (34): The Jeff Brohm era at Louisville opened up with some fireworks. Down 28-13 at halftime, the Cardinals stormed back to win, but failed to cover ATS.

• #21 North Carolina (31) vs. South Carolina (17): UNC won the Duke’s Mayo Classic, but both teams have room for improvement. Tar Heels QB Drake Maye tossed two INTs. The Gamecocks have a terrible offensive line, as QB Spencer Rattler was sacked nine times in the loss.

• Texas State (42) vs. Baylor (31): Baylor were outplayed by an inferior opponent. Texas State were +27.5 underdogs. A moneyline bet on the Bobcats paid out at +1480 odds.

• Texas Tech (33) vs. Wyoming (35): Pegged as a Big 12 sleeper, the Red Raiders opened up the season with a loss against Wyoming despite being -14 point favorites.

• #5 LSU (24) vs. #8 Florida State (45): FSU outscored LSU 31-7 in the second half to cruise to a win. Jordan Travis went 23/31 for 342 yards, 4 TDs and 1 INT. He also added a rushing TD.

• #9 Clemson (7) vs. Duke (28): In the lone CFB game on Monday, Duke dominated Clemson. It wasn’t even close. The Tigers went 0-2 on FGs and failed to score a point in the second half. The Blue Devils defeated an AP top 10 opponent for the first time since 1989.

NCAA Football Week 1 Report – Betting Trends

Each week we’ll uncover betting trends to help handicappers the following week. There isn’t much data to analyze for our NCAA football Week 1 report, but that’ll change as the season progresses.

• Top 25 Were Profitable: The top 25 teams went 16-9 (64%) ATS in Week 1. However, the top 5 teams went 1-4 ATS, with only #4 Alabama covering against Middle Tennessee (-39.5 favorites).

• Pac-12 Undefeated: In Week 1, Pac-12 teams went 12-0 (10-2 ATS). With the Pac-12 likely done due to realignment, it was a great way for Pac-12 football fans to begin the season.

• SEC Crush SU: SEC teams went 11-3 SU in Week 1, but some teams in the division have been overvalued against the spread. SEC teams went 8-6 ATS for a small profit in Week 1.

• Big Ten, Big 12 and ACC: All three conferences went 10-4 SU in Week 1, but only the ACC posted a profitable week ATS (8-6). The Big 12 were 6-8 ATS and the Big Ten were 5-9 ATS.

What to Watch for Next Week in College Football

There’s plenty to get excited about for Week 2 of the college football season.

• #11 Texas vs. #3 Alabama: The Longhorns will enter College Football Playoff discussions if they can travel to Tuscaloosa and defeat Alabama as +7 point underdogs.

• #20 Ole Miss vs. #24 Tulane: Tulane will host Ole Miss in the only other game featuring teams ranked inside of the AP top 25. Both teams opened the season by covering ATS in Week 1.

• Nebraska vs. #22 Colorado: Prior to Week 1 games, Nebraska were -7.5 to -8.5 favorites in this matchup, but now Colorado are -3 favorites at most betting sites and there has been huge betting volume on this game already. Will the Buffaloes suffer a setback in Week 2?

• Stanford vs. #6 USC: The Trojans will open up Pac-12 action this week. QB Caleb Williams has thrown for 597 yards, 9 TDs and 0 INTs in two games. Does Stanford have an answer?

The new AP top 25 rankings were just released, here’s how everything shook out:

Georgia are still ranked #1 and received 92.1% of first place votes. #4 Florida State moved up four spots after defeating LSU. LSU dropped nine spots in the rankings from #5 to #14. Clemson had the biggest drop, as they went from #9 to #25. They have lots to improve before playing FSU in three weeks.

Colorado are now ranked (#22), while TCU are no longer ranked. Ohio State dropped two places (#3 to #5) after a weak offensive performance against Indiana (Won 23-3). Duke are now ranked (#21) after defeating Clemson. They should be 4-0 when they play #10 Notre Dame in four weeks.

Three ranked teams lost in Week 1 (#5 LSU, #9 Clemson and #17 TCU).
