2023 MLB Wild Card – Who’s In and Who’s Out

In the American League, Baltimore, Tampa Bay, and Minnesota are the only teams to clinch a playoff spot. The O’s have a 2.5-game lead on the Rays for the AL East title and the Twins have clinched the AL Central. Texas currently leads the AL West where the MLB wild race is hot. Seattle and Houston are each within four games of the Rangers.

In the National League, the Braves and Dodgers have clinched their divisions, while the Brewers have clinched a playoff spot. Milwaukee will likely win the NL Central as the Brewers have a six-game lead over the Cubs. The Phillies, Cubs, Reds, Diamondbacks, Giants, and Padres are all still alive for a MLB wild card berth.

In the AL, if Baltimore wins the East, Tampa Bay (95-62) will own the top MLB wild card spot. Right now, Toronto (87-69) holds the No. 2 spot. It is believed Lillard will be traded by Oct. 2 as most teams begin practices for the 2023-24 season the next day.

• Yankees and Red Sox: Neither team will participate in the 2023 MLB playoffs marking the first time since 2014. Before that, it was 1993. Boston is currently 76-80 and in last place in the AL East. The Yankees are one spot ahead with a 79-77 record.
• Redskins: Something called the Native American Guardians Association is suing the Washington Commanders. They want the franchise to change the nickname back to the Redskins.
• Haley Van Voorhis: Who? Well, Haley just became the first female to play in a college football game and not as a kicker. Haley, a junior safety at Division III Shenandoah University, played against Juniata College over the weekend. It happened with little fanfare, but Sports Hub sees everything!
• Philly: So the Eagles get a dominating win over Tampa Bay to move to 3-0. The Phillies also won, beating the Mets 5-2. It was the Phillies fifth straight win and eight in their last ten games. The Phillies currently own the No. 3 seed in the NL playoffs and would host their MLB wild card series.

2. WNBA playoffs: Game 2 of the WNBA semifinals is tonight. No. 2 seed New York hosts Connecticut after the Sun pulled a huge upset in Game 1 to take the series lead. Top-seeded Las Vegas had an easy time with Dallas in the other semifinal, winning 97-83 in Game 1. Game 2 is tonight at Michelob Ultra Arena.
3. Soccer: Another day, more international soccer. There are several NCAA men’s soccer matches in the U.S., but the majority of today’s soccer will be played around the world. There are two matches in Spain’s La Liga and the rest of the schedule features many of the lesser known leagues. 4. Tennis: Alexander Zverev, the top seed, is facing Roman Safiullin right now in the final of the Chengdu Open. The final of the women’s 2023 Huafa Properties Zhuhai Championships is also taking place currently. No. 1 Karen Khachanov is battling No. 8 Yoshihito Nishioka. Men and women are currently playing the China Open. Women are still playing in the Ningbo Open and the Toray Pan Pacific Open. The Astana Open (men) begins today in Kazakhstan.
