Have you thought about Ryder Cup predictions? Well, don’t worry if you haven’t because Sports Hub has your back! It’s 2It’sRyder Cup week, and sports fans around the globe will be tuning in to find out what the outcome is in Rome come Sunday. Before you place your bets, you might want to learn how to Bet on golf.

The Solheim Cup was the perfect warm-up last weekend as Europe and the USA played out an enthralling 14-14 draw at Finca Cortesin, Spain. Europe retained the trophy since they were the current holders after winning in Ohio in 2021.

However, now it’s for the 44th Ryder Cup as Europe and the USA go head-to-head at  Marco Simone Golf and Country Club in Rome, Italy. The United States is looking to retain the trophy after winning the tournament in 2021 but will have to do so on European soil.

Check out my 2023 Ryder Cup predictions and preview below!

2021 Ryder Cup Summary

The USA lifted the 2021 Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits with ease after defeating Europe 19-9 in Wisconsin. To better understand the betting stakes, let’s let’s down the different types of golf bets. Despite Europe recording a heavy triumph themselves at Le Golf National, France in 2018, winning 17 ½ – 10 ½, the US was able to inflict an even heavier loss in the last edition of the tournament.

Not only was the margin of victory the largest since 1967, but the US fielded its youngest side in history. The ten-point triumph was the biggest margin since players from the rest of continental Europe had started playing in the Ryder Cup.

It has been 30 years since the USA was able to defeat Europe on foreign soil as they aim to lift the Ryder Cup trophy back-to-back for the first time since 1991-1993. Hopefully, I can use some past information to work out my 2023 Ryder Cup predictions!

2023 Ryder Cup Information

Unlike traditional golf tournaments, the Ryder Cup sees players compete in teams – Europe and the USA. It is a biennial competition with venues alternating between Europe and the USA and it was first played in 1927.

The format of the tournament is a series of match-play competitions with four matches of Foursomes and four matches of Four-balls on both Friday and Saturday. The final day will see players compete in 12 singles matches, meaning there are a total of 28 matches altogether.

Marco Simone Golf and Country Club Course Information:

Par: 71 / Yards: 7,181

Designers: Jim Fazio & David Mezzacane (Redesigned by Tom Fazio II from 2018-2021)

Grass: Paspalum

Marco Simone is located just ten miles outside the center of Rome and will be the home of the first Ryder Cup to be hosted in Italy. The recent redesign was done specifically with the Ryder Cup in mind when the course won the bid back in 2015. The focus of the course has been risk and reward opportunities for its players, specifically to target match-play competitions.

Team Europe has experience playing on the course, whilst the USA does not. That is set to make a big impact on Ryder Cup predictions. For example, despite Nicolai Højgaard being the youngest player in the tournament, he won at Marco Simone during the 2021 Italian Open. Robert MacIntyre also won on this course in last year’syear’san Open.

Expert Ryder Cup Predictions for 2023

Players from continental Europe have been allowed to play in the Ryder Cup since 1979. A total of 21 matches have been played since then, with Europe currently having a better record than the US of 11-9-1.

The USA have won just twice away from home following continental EuropeEurope’sduction and they haven’haven’tn European soil since 1993. However, in the months leading up to the tournament, the USA were the favorites to win, largely due to the dominance they showed in 2021.

Here are the current odds to win the 2023 Ryder Cup:

  • USA (+100)
  • Europe (+100)
  • Tie (+900)

As you can see, Europe has been backed a lot recently so the odds are now at the same price of +100. Europe is no longer the underdog, as they were just a week ago.

Below are the odds for the Ryder Cup winner from last week:

  • USA (-110)
  • Europe (+120)
  • Tie (+1200)

The closer we have gotten to the start of the tournament, people have been favoring the home advantage for Europe. It has been rare for the USA to win away from home, with them last doing so 30 years ago. As a result, Europe has been very popular in terms of Ryder Cup predictions of late.

We are set for an enthralling clash between Europe and USA and it could be close. Perhaps we could find some value in the tie (+900). However, there have only ever been two previous ties in Ryder Cup history so it isn’t isn’tost popular of Ryder Cup predictions. Could we see a similar outcome as the 2023 Solheim Cup?

Alternative Ryder Cup Predictions

When it comes to outright golf betting, there are some Important tips to know for outright golf betting. Betting on the winner may not offer the biggest odds for the Ryder Cup. Therefore, bettors have the option to place bets on other markets. One of those markets is the margin of victory. Below are the current odds:

  • Europe by 1-3 points (+325)
  • Europe by 4-6 points (+500)
  • Europe by 7 or more points (+450)
  • Tie (+900)
  • USA by 1-3 points (+325)
  • USA by 4-6 points (+500)
  • USA by 7 or more points (+450)

The last two Ryder Cup winners have won by at least seven points, meaning the tournament hasn’thasn’tvery close of late. In the 2014 and 2016 editions, the margin was between four and six points. The last time the winning margin was close (just one point) was in both the 2010 and 2012 tournaments as Europe ran out victors in both.

Another key factor that is influencing Ryder Cup predictions is the recent activity of the players. EuropeEurope’srs have all been playing in the build-up to the tournament here, whilst the majority of the USA team have had some time off since the end of the Tour Championship in August.

2023 Ryder Cup Predictions – Winner

I have made my decision for my 2023 Ryder Cup predictions. Many people have been backing Europe of late and it’s hit’sto see past them winning the tournament due to home advantage.

Although the USA dominated the tournament in 2021, it will be hard for them to win here in Italy. The likes of Hojgaard, Robert MacIntyre, Tommy Fleetwood, and Matt Fitzpatrick have all performed well on the course before so that will offer a huge advantage over a USA team that has seen none of its players play at Marco Simone in the past.

Viktor Hovland and Rory McIlroy were in fantastic form during the FedEx Cup leading up to the tournament here. Hovland won the last two PGA Tour tournaments to be crowned the FedEx Cup winner. I can see him, McIlroy, and Jon Rahm helping Europe to victory.

Best Bet: Europe (+100)

2023 Ryder Cup Predictions – Margin of Victory

This is where Ryder Cup predictions get more interesting. Teams that have won the tournament recently have done so by quite a margin.

With the USA being considered favorites for such a long time heading into the competition, many have been fans of their squad and chances of winning, despite playing away from home.

Scottie Scheffler demonstrated his top quality across the whole of the 2022/23 PGA Tour, whilst Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay showed their qualities during the FedEx Cup playoffs. These are the players that will put up a fight for the USA, despite the home advantage that many are talking about for Europe.
