We’re going to analyze all four games on the schedule for our CFL Week 17 predictions. There are two games on Friday night and a doubleheader on Saturday again this week in CFL betting action.
The Edmonton Elks are on a bye week and won’t be in action this week.

Argonauts vs. Blue Bombers Prediction
- When: Friday, September 29th 2023 at 8:00 PM ET
- Where: IG Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba
- Opening Spread: Blue Bombers -2.5 / Current Spread: Blue Bombers -7.5
- Opening Total: 50 Points / Current Total: 48 Points
The Toronto Argonauts (12-1 / 10-3 ATS) announced QB Chad Kelly will rest this week, which is why we had huge line movement. The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (10-4 / 7-7 ATS) are coming off a bye week.
These are the two best teams in the CFL, as Toronto score 33.8 PPG (1st) and Winnipeg score 32.0 PPG (2nd). Winnipeg have a small edge on defense, as they allow 20.9 PPG (1st) and Toronto allow 21.4 PPG (2nd). With Kelly out, Toronto will struggle against the Bombers passing defense (224.2 PYPG – 2nd).
This is the first H2H meeting since last year’s Grey Cup, which Toronto won (24-23). Winnipeg have been inconsistent this season, but not at home. The Bombers are 6-1 (5-2 ATS) at IG Field. I’m betting on the Bombers at home, but I’m going to buy a ½ point and take Winnipeg to win by a TD.
Best Bet: Winnipeg Blue Bombers -7
Roughriders vs. Lions Prediction
- When: Friday, September 29th 2023 at 10:30 PM ET
- Where: BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia
- Opening Spread: Lions -9.5 / Current Spread: Lions -10
- Opening Total: 48 Points / Current Total: 48.5 Points
The BC Lions (10-4 / 8-5-1 ATS) host the Saskatchewan Roughriders (6-8 / 6-7-1 ATS). The H2H series this season is split (1-1 / 1-1 ATS). The first game went under and the second game went over.
After defeating the Bombers in Week 13, the Riders have lost to Winnipeg, Edmonton and Ottawa. The Lions rank third in scoring (27.6 PPG) and points allowed (22.0 PPG). BC have the best passing attack (305.9 PYPG – 1st) and the Roughriders are allowing 249.9 PYPG (5th) this season.
Saskatchewan have gone over in 10 of 14 games, which is more than anyone in the CFL. The defense is weak, but the offense has still been putting up points most games. Vernon Adams Jr. is second in the CFL in passing yards (3,547) and passing TDs (25). He’ll have a big game, but what’s the best bet?

Alouettes vs. Redblacks Prediction
- When: Saturday, September 30th 2023 at 4:00 PM ET
- Where: TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario
- Opening Spread: Alouettes -2.5 / Current Spread: Alouettes -2
- Opening Total: 47 Points / Current Total: 48 Points
Both the Montreal Alouettes (7-7 / 7-7 ATS) and Ottawa Redblacks (4-10 / 5-9 ATS) won last week. The Als are now 5-1 ATS as a favorite and 2-6 ATS as an underdog this season. Ottawa are 3-4 (4-3 ATS) at home. Montreal are 2-0 (1-1 ATS) against Ottawa this season and the over/under record is 1-1.
These two offenses produce at a similar rate. Ottawa are scoring 24.9 PPG (4th) and the Als are scoring 23.1 PPG (5th). Montreal are better defensively, allowing 23.8 PPG (4th), while Ottawa allow 27.1 PPG (8th). The Redblacks have the worst passing defense in the league (322.4 PYPG – 9th).
Ottawa lead the CFL in forced turnovers (39) and they have a +8 turnover margin (2nd). Ottawa need to win this game to stay in the CFL playoffs race and I suspect this game will come down to the wire.

Stampeders vs. Tiger-Cats Prediction
- When: Saturday, September 30th 2023 at 7:00 PM ET
- Where: Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton, Ontario
- Opening Spread: Tiger-Cats -1.5 / Current Spread: Tiger-Cats -1.5
- Opening Total: 47.5 Points / Current Total: 47.5 Points
The Calgary Stampeders (4-10 / 5-8-1 ATS) and Hamilton Tiger-Cats (6-8 / 6-8 ATS) both need to win this matchup. The H2H season series is split (1-1 / 1-1 ATS) and both games went over the total.
These teams both allow 27.0 PPG (T6). Calgary score 22.6 PPG (6th) and Hamilton score 21.3 PPG (8th) this season. Hamilton rank fourth in passing yards (268.4 PYPG), but the Stamps rank second in passing yards allowed (234.7 PYPG). Hamilton are tied for last in turnovers made (36).
Calgary need to get the offense going in this game. Hamilton are allowing 119.4 RYPG (6th) and 275.2 PYPG (7th). Hamilton are 0-3 ATS as a favorite this season and 2-5 (2-5 ATS) at home. Can the Stamps be trusted to get a win on the road? Find out by accessing my CFL Week 17 predictions.

CFL Week 17 Predictions – Touchdown Scorers
We’re getting a great price on Kenny Lawler to score a touchdown against the Argonauts. Winnipeg lead the CFL in passing TDs (34). Lawler has scored a TD in six of eight games this season. He has scored a TD in four consecutive games. The Argos are banged up on defense and Lawler will score a touchdown.
Best Bet: Kenny Lawler to Score a TD (-120)
CFL Week 17 Predictions – Player Props
I’m betting on Austin Mack to have over 72.5 receiving yards this week against Ottawa. The Redblacks can’t stop the pass and the Alouettes need a win. Mack has had 73+ receiving yards in just six of 13 games this season, but he exceeded 115+ receiving yards in both games against Ottawa.
Best Bet: Austin Mack Over 72.5 Receiving Yards (-125)
