NCAA Football Week 8 Report – Game of the Week

We’ve isolated one “Game of the Week” for our NCAA football Week 8 report.

  • Game of the Week: #7 Penn State (12) vs. #3 Ohio State (20)

Penn State were unable to get a statement win against their Big Ten rivals. OSU were small favorites (-4) and covered against the spread. The game total was 46.5 points and easily went under.

The star of the game was Marvin Harrison Jr. who finished with 11 receptions for 162 yards and 1 TD.

Both QBs were inefficient. Kyle McCord went 22/35 for 286 yards and 1 TD, while Drew Allar went 18/42 for 191 yards and 1 TD. Both rushing attacks were held to under 80 yards on the ground.

Here are the remaining games that made the top ten in our NCAA football Week 8 report:

  • #16 Duke (20) vs. #4 Florida State (38): Duke were up 20-17 heading into the fourth quarter, but Florida State scored 21 unanswered points in the final frame to cover ATS.
  • #17 Tennessee (20) vs. #11 Alabama (34): After a slow first half, Bama were down 20-7 at HT, but they bounced back and outscored the Volunteers 27-0 in the second half of this SEC game.
  • #14 Utah (34) vs. #18 USC (32): The Trojans have lost two consecutive games. Bryson Barnes had three passing TDs on just 14 completions. USC need to get stronger defensively to contend.
  • Virginia (31) vs. #10 North Carolina (27): The Cavaliers won their first road game against a top 10 opponent in program history. UNC were -24 favorites, but suffered their first loss.
  • Arizona State (7) vs. #5 Washington (15): The Huskies offense took the week off. They made three FGs, plus returned an interception 89 yards to seal the win and remain undefeated.
  • UCF (29) vs. #6 Oklahoma (31): Down 23-17 after three quarters, the Sooners scored two TDs in the fourth quarter to win and remain undefeated. Dillon Gabriel had three passing TDs.
  • Minnesota (12) vs. #24 Iowa (10): The Hawkeyes’ lethargic offense finally bit them. Iowa were up 10-3 at halftime, but the Golden Gophers held Iowa to 127 total yards and won.
  • Clemson (20) vs. Miami (28): The Hurricanes defeated the Tigers in double overtime. Clemson have three losses in ACC play for the first time since 2010. They were up 17-10 in the fourth.
  • Mississippi State (7) vs. Arkansas (3): What’s wrong with Arkansas? After starting the season on a 2-0 run, the Razorbacks have lost six consecutive games and are 0-5 in SEC play.

NCAA Football Week 8 Report – Betting Trends

Here are the latest betting trends we wanted to include in our NCAA football Week 8 report:

  • Top 25 vs. Unranked: We had two more top 25 teams lost to unranked opponents in Week 8. The top 25 also struggled to cover point spreads against unranked teams last week. The top 25 ended up going 11-2 SU against unranked opponents, but were just 5-7-1 ATS.
  • Undefeated Power Five Teams: Slowly, but surely, the best teams in the country and separating from the contenders. We’re down to six undefeated power five teams (Florida State, Oklahoma, Michigan, Ohio State, Washington and Georgia), as Penn State and North Carolina both lost.
  • SEC Showdown: It looks like we’ll have a Georgia vs. Alabama SEC Championship Game this season if both teams continue winning. Alabama are 5-0 (4-1 ATS) in SEC play, while Georgia are 4-0 (1-3 ATS) in SEC play. We’ll see Bama in the CFP if they can win out.
  • NCAAF ATS Trends: There were four undefeated teams ATS prior to last week, but now there are none, as Oregon, Penn State, Oklahoma and UNLV all failed to cover in Week 8. Illinois, Vanderbilt and Temple are all 1-7 ATS this season and should be faded the rest of the way.
  • NCAAF Over/Under Trends: LSU, Boston College and Vanderbilt have gone over in every game this season. If you bet on all three going over last week, you’d be up $300. The trends we include in our NCAA football Week 8 report will help you prepare for the following week.

What to Watch for Next Week in College Football

We’ve included the biggest Week 9 games in our NCAA football Week 8 report:

  • #8 Oregon vs. #13 Utah: The Ducks and Utes are both 6-1 (3-1 in Pac-12). Oregon are favorites (-7) on the road despite the fact that Utah have won 18 consecutive home games.
  • #20 Duke vs. #18 Louisville: Duke (5-2 / 2-1 ACC) and Louisville (6-1 / 3-1 ACC) are both still fighting for a spot in the ACC Championship Game. Louisville are -4 favorites at home.
  • #1 Georgia vs. Florida: Georgia are -14.5 favorites on the road against the Gators. The Bulldogs are just 1-5-1 ATS this season. Can the Gators pull off the huge upset in The Swamp?
  • #21 Tennessee vs. Kentucky: Tennessee are small favorites (-3.5) on the road. Can Tennessee bounce back after losing to Bama? Kentucky are coming off a bye, but have lost two in a row.
  • BYU vs. #7 Texas: The Longhorns are huge favorites (-17.5), but they barely escaped last week with a win against Houston. Both teams are 3-4 ATS. Can the Cougars ruin Texas’ season?

The top six teams in the AP top 25 rankings are unchanged for our NCAA football Week 8 report. Penn State dropped to #10 after losing to the Buckeyes. North Carolina and Duke both dropped multiple spots after losing in Week 8. The two blue bloods in college basketball were unable to get the job done.

There was only one team to drop out of the top 25 rankings (Iowa). James Madison are ranked for the first time this season and they deserve to be after opening the season undefeated (7-0).

That wraps up our NCAA football week 8 report. We hope this report has been helpful as you prepare for NCAAF Week 9. Sign-up to Sports Hub to make sure you don’t miss any more winning NCAAF picks.
