The 2023 ATP season is in the books. Following another year of memorable tennis action, it’s time to look back on the season and discuss all the key talking points, stats and betting trends. 

It’s safe to say that 2023 was Novak Djokovic’s year. Ageing like a fine wine, the legendary 36-year-old won three of the four Grand Slam titles to further cement his status as one of the sport’s all-time greats.

Unsurprisingly, Novak Djokovic won more tournaments than anyone else during the 2023 ATP season. The iconic Serb claimed seven titles, including three Grand Slam crowns and two ATP Masters 1000 titles. 

Despite Djokovic’s dominance, Daniil Medvedev reached the most finals in 2023. The 27-year-old Russian featured in no fewer than nine finals, including the US Open final, although he finished the year with five titles. 

As expected, Djokovic finished the 2023 ATP season as both the prize money and points leader. Let’s take a closer look at the ATP Rankings after another epic campaign.

Thanks largely to his achievements in the Grand Slam tournaments, Djokovic finished a whopping 2,390 points clear of his closest challenger – Carlos Alcaraz – in the final ATP Singles Rankings. Here’s how the top 10 shaped up.

It is worth noting that Djokovic is the only player over the age of 27 in the top 10. Remarkably, Alcaraz and Holger Rune are both 20, while Jannik Sinner and Stefanos Tsitsipas are 22 and 25, respectively.

America’s Austin Krajicek finished the 2023 ATP season as the top-ranked doubles player after winning five tournaments. Only Djokovic and Alcaraz won more titles in 2023, highlighting Krajicek’s achievements. 

Who Won the Grand Slam Titles in 2023? 

Not only did Djokovic win three Grand Slam titles in 2023, but he also reached the final of the Grand Slam he didn’t win. That tells you everything you need to know about the Serb’s domination of the ATP Tour. 

Djokovic kicked off the 2023 ATP season with back-to-back Grand Slam triumphs, beating Tsitsipas in Australia before defeating Casper Ruud in France. After losing the Wimbledon final to Alcaraz, the 36-year-old bounced back to beat Medvedev in the US. 

As a result, Djokovic has now won more Grand Slam titles than any other man, as he surpassed Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in 2023.

Not only did Medvedev reach the most finals in 2023, but he also played the most matches. To put things into perspective, Djokovic played 60 matches – securing 54 wins (90%) – while Medvedev won 66 of his 84 matches (79%)

As you can see, Hubert Hurkacz served the most aces by a huge margin, averaging 14.9 aces per match in 2023. Taylor Fritz finished second on the aces leaderboard, but he averaged just 8.9 per match. 

2023 ATP Season Wrap-Up 

The 2033 ATP season will always be remembered for Djokovic’s dominance in the Grand Slam tournaments. Even at the ripe old age of 36, the Serb managed to reach all four major finals, triumphing on three occasions. 

That said, Djokovic’s loss to Alcaraz in the Wimbledon final signaled a potential shift in the world of men’s tennis. At 20, Alcaraz is undoubtedly the future of the sport, and big things are expected of the Spaniard in 2024.
