Rare MNF Doubleheader Tonight – December 11

It’s a rare treat tonight as we are treated to a MNF doubleheader in Week 14 of the NFL season. Typically, an MNF doubleheader is something we see early in the season. Those early season doubleheaders also usually feature a matchup of East Coast teams and another with at least one West Coast team. That way, the games can start at different times and fans can watch both.

That’s not the case tonight as the MNF doubleheader features a pair of games both starting at 8:15 p.m. ET. When the NFL signed its latest media rights deal, ESPN wanted to bring more of a Sunday atmosphere to primetime games. On Sunday afternoons, of course, there are always multiple games going on at the same time. That will be the case tonight with one game on ABC and the other on ESPN.

Tonight’s MNF Doubleheader Matchups

Green Bay will play the New York Giants of the NFC East at MetLife Stadium tonight. While watching the Giants has been hard for fans this season, this game has serious playoff implications. The Packers currently hold the seventh and final playoff spot in the NFC. A win tonight would give Green Bay a 7-6 record, the same as NFC North Division rival Minnesota. 

The Packers and Vikings have played each other once and meet again on New Year’s Eve on Sunday Night Football. Minnesota won the first game 24-10. Tonight’s MNF doubleheader outcome and the result of the next meeting will go a long way in determining which team makes the playoffs. 

That is not the case for the Miami Dolphins, who are 9-3 and lead the AFC East. The Dolphins will host the 4-8 Tennessee Titans tonight as part of the MNF doubleheader. Miami has won three straight and has won every game it has played against teams with a losing record. The Dolphins are currently the No. 2 seed in the AFC postseason rankings. A win tonight would give Miami a 10-3 record, the same as the Baltimore Ravens. Baltimore holds the top seed and will host the Dolphins on New Year’s Eve. That could prove to be the key game in deciding which team gets the AFC’s top seed and a first-round bye in the playoffs.

Blatt Blasts Leaderboard

• Blast off: As mentioned, it was Bill Blatt at the top of the board yesterday. Over the last seven days, Bill has gone 19-10 on picks across a variety of sports and has earned $820. Bill does have an NHL pick for tonight. Just sayin’.
• No. 2: Seth Cohen went 3-0 yesterday, hitting all three of his NFL picks. He earned $300, which gives him $590 over the last three days. In those three days, Seth is 7-1. He also has an NHL pick for tonight. He has hit his last five NHL picks in a row.
• Big Ben strikes again: Ben Miller is back at the top of the daily leaderboard. Ben went 4-1 yesterday and earned $290. Ben is one of the most consistent cappers here at Sports Hub. Over the last 30 days, he has won 56 percent of his picks and sits at No. 13 on the 30-day leaderboard.
• Old School Sal: Once again, Sal Lombardi graces us with his presence. He fired up 13 picks yesterday and hit 8 of them to finish at No. 5 on the leaderboard. The majority of the picks were in the NFL and Sal did go 3-1 with his specialty – the NHL. For his efforts, Sal picked up $245, which gives him $1831 over the last 30 days. 

MNF Doubleheader Tops Today’s Schedule

It’s such a rare event at this time of the NFL season. Tonight’s MNF doubleheader is the king of sporting events tonight. The Titans-Dolphins game is on ESPN and the Packers-Giants game can be watched on ABC. The MNF doubleheader isn’t the only sports action tonight. The NBA is back after taking yesterday off. Hockey bettors can take advantage of a few NHL games tonight. Here’s what’s on tap today.

1. MNF doubleheader: We’ve mentioned it a zillion times. You should have it down by now. There are already almost two dozen picks in our database for the games tonight. It would be interesting to see how our expert handicappers are picking tonight’s game.

2. 4 NHL games: There are only four NHL games tonight. There are some interesting games on the schedule including Detroit at Dallas and Calgary at Colorado. Our handicappers see something interesting too. They have almost a dozen hockey picks in the system already.
3. Monday NBA: Almost the entire NBA is in action tonight. There are 13 games on the schedule. Dallas takes on Memphis in the NBATV game. Ja Morant has yet to play for the Grizzlies due to his 25-game suspension. He is due to be back in the lineup on Dec. 19.
4. College basketball: After a huge weekend of college basketball, the action slows down tonight. Fans and bettors will be focused on the MNF doubleheader anyway. There is one game featuring a ranked team. No. 7 Gonzaga, which was upset by Washington on Saturday, will host Mississippi Valley State. 
5. Slow day in soccer: There are two matches each in the Spanish La Liga and the Italian Serie A. Both matches in each league feature teams currently in the bottom half of the league standings.

• Dak & the Boys: Dak Prescott went 24-of-39 for 271 yards passing and two touchdowns last night as Dallas beat Philadelphia 33-13. With the win, the Cowboys take over the lead in the NFC East and move to No. 2 in the conference playoff standings. 
• Eagles D:  You never want to be trending for the wrong reason, but the Philadelphia defense has been awful lately. In fact, the Eagles have allowed 30-plus points in four of their past six games, including the last three in a row. 
• Chiefs offense: Remember the Chiefs offense? KC is averaging just 22.5 points per game and they rank outside of the top-10. Yesterday, the Chiefs generated some excitement with a late Travis Kelce crossfield lateral that resulted in a Kadarius Toney touchdown. However, Toney lined up in the neutral zone which resulted in an offsides penalty against the Chiefs which negated the scoring play. Kansas City has now lost three of its last four games and is now 8-5.

• Bronny: If anyone cares, LeBron James’ son made his debut for USC yesterday. Remember, Bronny suffered a cardiac arrest during a summer workout. He played 16 minutes and scored four points.
• Jefferson hurt again: Justin Jefferson returned to the Vikings this week then got drilled by Raiders safety Marcus Epps and left the game. It’s not serious, but without Jefferson the rest of the game the Vikings offense had trouble. Minnesota also benched starting QB Josh Dobbs and then went on to lose to Las Vegas 3-0. Yes, you read that right…3-0!
• Just for fun: Before Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers, it was being reported that the two-time MVP was on a plane to Toronto. Bettors flocked to sportsbooks to bet Ohtani to the Blue Jays at 15-1. Turns out…it was Shark Tank’s Robert Herjavec on the plane. Ohtani signed with LA the next day.
