UFC 300 – The Card of the Century

It’s a big Saturday in the sports world and one of the feature events is UFC 300. It has been touted as the “greatest card ever assembled” and UFC 300 surely won’t disappoint. The main event is the lightheavyweight bout between Alex Pereira (9-2) and Jamahal Hill (12-1). The rest of the UFC 300 card is equally as impressive. It’s a gathering of some of the biggest names in the sport and includes the likes of Justin Gaethje, Max Holloway, Charles Oliveira, Holly Holm, and Jessica Andrade.

A total of 13 bouts make up tonight’s UFC 300 card. The event will take place at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The early prelim bouts will start at 6:00 p.m. The prelims will follow beginning at 8:00 p.m. Both the early prelims and prelims can be viewed on ESPN and ESPN+. 

The main card at UFC 300 gets underway at 10:00 p.m. Gaethje will take on Holloway in one of the bouts leading up to the Pereira-Hill main event. Gaethje-Holloway would be a main event on any other card. So would Holly Holm and Kayla Harrison. Zhang Weili and Yan Xiaonan will fight for the women’s strawweight championship. If the fight was not part of UFC 300, it too could be a main event. The bottom line is that UFC 300 is loaded.

Putting UFC 300 Together

UFC president Dana White wanted to make UFC 300 special. “We’re putting together the greatest card ever assembled,” said White when he was interviewed on the Jim Rome Show earlier in 2024. That is something White has done. 

Just about every single matchup in tonight’s UFC 300 could stand alone as a main event or as a pay-per-view event. UFC 300 has 11 current or former UFC undisputed champions competing tonight. There are also a number of other fighters – like Gaethje and Harrison – who have held interim titles or belts in other major promotions.

White and the UFC brass had longed for a Connor McGregor-Michael Chandler main event at UFC 300, but that just wasn’t going to happen. McGregor had too many other commitments, including his acting debut in a remake of the classic Roadhouse movie alongside Jake Gyllenhaal. 

Gaethje holds the BMF title and will fight his good friend Holloway for the BMF title at tonight’s UFC 300. What is the BMF title, you ask? That would be the title of “baddest motherf—er” which is awarded to fighters like Gaethje known for putting on entertaining, bloody fights.

• The Bookie: With a name like The Bookie, you’ve got to be good, right? Yesterday, The Bookie went 4-1 and gained $245 in profits. That rounded out yesterday’s Top 5.

Logjam at Top of NBA Western Conference

Rookie sensation Victor Wembenyana and the San Antonio Spurs pulled off a 121-120 upset of the Denver Nuggets last night. Ruh-roh, now there’s a huge tie for the Western Conference’s top seed in the playoffs. That’ll make Sunday’s final day of the regular season even more exciting.

Let’s check out what else is trending.

• Three-way tie: San Antonio’s win last night coupled with wins by Minnesota and Oklahoma City created a three-way tie for first place in the Western Conference. All three teams play on Sunday with the results determining who gets the top seed and who ends up at No. 2 and No. 3.

• Masters: Tiger Woods made his 24th Masters cut. Max Homa, Scottie Scheffler, and Bryson DeChambeau were in the lead after the first two rounds of the Masters. Round 3 is already underway at Augusta. There has been no sighting of Bill Murray anywhere.
• Sixers: Philly beat Orlando last night to earn the Sixers seventh straight win and, more importantly, move into a tie with the Magic for sixth place in the Eastern Conference. Orlando, Indiana, and Philadelphia all have identical 46-35 records. The team that finishes in sixth will avoid the play-in tournament.
• Strider done: One of MLB’s best young pitchers will miss the rest of the 2024 season. Atlanta’s Spencer Strider had surgery to repair his UCL on Friday. Strider led MLB last season with 20 wins and 281 strikeouts.
• The day after: It’s the day after we learned of the death of OJ Simpson. Yesterday’s Daily Report covered the news.

UFC 300 Heads Up Solid Saturday Schedule

UFC 300 is not the only thing on today’s schedule. While the NBA takes a day off, there are plenty of sporting events to wager on today.

Here’s a look at what’s happening today.

1. MLB: We’ve got a full slate of MLB games today. The Yankees and Guardians kick things off with a 12:10 p.m. ET game. The Padres and Dodgers continue their series tonight and the Cubs and Mariners close things out today when they start Game 2 of their series at 9:40 p.m. ET.
2. MLS: Saturday’s at this time of year mean Major League Soccer. There are 12 matches today, including Inter Miami and Lionel Messi playing at Sporting Kansas City.
3. Soccer: The rest of the world’s top leagues also play today. Five Premier League matches are already complete. The final one today pits Manchester United against AFC Bournemouth.
4. NHL: There are 13 NHL games today as that season winds down. ABC will broadcast a tripleheader starting with a battle of New York. It’s the Islanders and Rangers at Madison Square Garden at 12:30 p.m. to kick things off. Seattle plays in Dallas at 3:30 p.m. and Boston at Pittsburgh at 8:00 p.m. is the final game of the tripleheader.
5. UFC 300: If you don’t know by now…there is a massive lineup tonight in UFC 300.The event gets underway at 6:00 p.m. ET from Las Vegas.

6. The Masters: Round 3 of the Masters is already underway. Tiger Woods made the cut and still has a shot at claiming at sixth Masters championship at age 48.
7. Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters: The semifinals of the Rolex Masters are underway today. Stefanos Tsitsipas upset No. 2 Jannick Sinner. No. 1 Novak Djokovic is ahead in his semifinal against Casper Ruud.
8. UFL Week 3: There are two games today in Week 3 of the UFL season: DC Defenders-Arlington Renegades and Memphis Showboats-Birmingham Stallions.
