Jose Quintana Leads the Mets to a 4-0 Win Over the Reds
Jose Quintana and three Mets relievers combined to limit the Cincinnati Reds to just six hits on Saturday, propelling the New York Mets to a 4-0 victory. This win, marking the middle game of a three-game series, continued the Mets’ incredible momentum as they notched their ninth consecutive victory.
The game remained tight early, as Cincinnati starter Jakob Junis held the Mets to just two baserunners through the first five innings. However, in the sixth, New York broke the deadlock, scoring four times to secure their longest winning streak since April 2018.
Santiago Espinal had a multi-hit game for the Reds, adding a stolen base, while Tyler Stephenson doubled and walked, continuing his solid offensive output. However, the Reds have struggled recently, dropping 10 of their last 16 games.
Quintana’s Milestone Performance
Quintana (8-9) delivered a masterful performance, scattering five hits and two walks while striking out six over 6 2/3 innings. The win was significant, marking his 100th career victory. Despite only two 1-2-3 innings, Quintana induced key double plays and limited the Reds to just one hit in nine plate appearances with runners on base. His ability to pitch out of trouble was crucial to the Mets’ success.
Ottavino and the Bullpen Close the Door
Adam Ottavino struck out pinch hitter Will Benson to leave Espinal stranded at third in the seventh inning, maintaining the Mets’ lead. Danny Young followed with a flawless eighth inning, and Edwin Diaz finished the job in a non-save situation, sealing the win for New York.
