Luciano Darderi of Italy beat Dominic Thiem 7-6 (6), 6-2, marking the final match of the Austrian star’s career. Thiem, a former World No. 3, received a standing ovation as his racket was placed in a glass case after the match.
In other action, American No. 5 seed Frances Tiafoe, Italian No. 6 seed Lorenzo Musetti, British No. 7 seed Jack Draper, American Marcos Giron, Frenchman Gael Monfils, and Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic all advanced in straight sets.

No. 3 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece outlasted Argentina’s Francisco Cerundolo 6-3, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (4) in a marathon match that took 2 hours and 32 minutes. Tsitsipas won the final five points in the third-set tiebreaker to secure the victory. He will face Dutch qualifier Botic van de Zandschulp next, who advanced after Kazakhstan’s Alexander Bublik retired due to injury.
No. 4 seed Holger Rune of Denmark beat Nicolas Jarry of Chile 6-4, 7-6 (3), and No. 6 seed Ben Shelton of the U.S. defeated Argentina’s Tomas Martin Etcheverry 6-3, 6-4. Also moving on were Canadian Denis Shapovalov, Switzerland’s Dominic Stricker, and Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo.
