Kaapo Kakko delivered a power-play goal with 24 seconds left, lifting the New York Rangers past the Montreal Canadiens and snapping a five-game losing streak.

The Rangers jumped out early with power-play goals from Artemi Panarin and Mika Zibanejad and a late first-period tally by Vincent Trocheck. However, Montreal rallied in the third with goals from Cole Caufield and Nick Suzuki to tie the game. A high-sticking penalty on Kirby Dach set the stage for Kakko’s heroics.

Wild 3, Predators 2 (OT)

Jared Spurgeon’s overtime goal gave the Minnesota Wild their third consecutive win.

Spurgeon and Kirill Kaprizov each recorded a goal and an assist. Declan Chisholm also scored for the Wild, while Ryan O’Reilly and Fedor Svechkov found the net for Nashville. Kaprizov’s setup for Spurgeon in overtime sealed the win, as the Predators suffered their third straight overtime loss.


Sharks 4, Kraken 2

San Jose scored three goals early in the second period and held on to beat Seattle for the second straight night.

Luke Kunin, Cody Ceci, and Will Smith scored within a 10-minute span, while Mario Ferraro added an insurance goal. Mackenzie Blackwood made 36 saves for the Sharks. Jaden Schwartz and Jared McCann scored for the Kraken, who have dropped three straight games.


Maple Leafs 5, Lightning 3

Toronto built a four-goal lead and held off a late Tampa Bay surge to secure a road win.

Chris Tanev contributed a goal and an assist, while Matthew Knies, Nicholas Robertson, John Tavares, and William Nylander also scored. Auston Matthews returned from injury and added two assists. Tampa Bay’s Michael Eyssimont, Jake Guentzel, and Cam Atkinson scored late, but Nylander’s empty-net goal clinched the victory.


Penguins 6, Flames 2

Michael Bunting and Kris Letang each had a goal and two assists as Pittsburgh rolled past Calgary.

Blake Lizotte added a goal and an assist, and Alex Nedeljkovic made 30 saves for the Penguins, who have won three straight. Jonathan Huberdeau and Nazem Kadri tallied for the Flames, who have lost seven consecutive road games.


Kings 5, Senators 2

Los Angeles scored early and often to beat Ottawa at home.

Kevin Fiala, Anze Kopitar, and Trevor Moore each recorded a goal and an assist. Alex Laferriere and Adrian Kempe also scored, while David Rittich made 20 saves. Ottawa got goals from Tim Stutzle and Adam Gaudette but missed the opportunity to secure their first three-game win streak of the season.


Islanders 3, Sabres 0

Anders Lee led the way with a power-play goal and an assist as New York shut out Buffalo.

Simon Holmstrom scored twice, including an empty-netter, and Ilya Sorokin stopped all 29 shots for his 19th career shutout. The Islanders avoided a late collapse and secured just their third win in 11 games. Buffalo lost its third straight despite 17 saves from James Reimer.


Panthers 6, Hurricanes 0

Spencer Knight made 20 saves to earn a shutout as Florida routed Carolina.

The Panthers completed a home-and-home sweep, following a dominant performance in Raleigh on Friday. Aaron Ekblad, Sam Bennett, Aleksander Barkov, and Evan Rodrigues were among six Panthers to score. Carolina’s Spencer Martin was pulled after allowing five goals.

Capitals 6, Devils 5

Taylor Raddysh and Pierre-Luc Dubois scored 10 seconds apart late in the third period as Washington edged New Jersey.

Rasmus Sandin also contributed a goal and an assist, while John Carlson logged three assists. Jesper Bratt and Nico Hischier had strong performances for the Devils, who fell despite Jack Hughes’ three assists.


Utah Hockey Club 6, Golden Knights 0

Jaxson Stauber stopped all 29 shots he faced to earn his first NHL shutout as Utah cruised past Vegas.

Nick Schmaltz scored twice, and Clayton Keller, Logan Cooley, and Alexander Kerfoot each had multi-point nights for Utah, which equaled its season-high goal total. Vegas struggled offensively, losing at home for just the third time this season.


Flyers 3, Blues 2 (OT)

Matvei Michkov scored his third overtime goal of the month to lift Philadelphia over St. Louis.

Michkov also added a highlight-reel assist, and Aleksei Kolosov made 26 saves for the Flyers. The Blues forced overtime with Jake Neighbours’ late goal but lost for the first time under new coach Jim Montgomery.

Oilers 4, Avalanche 1

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Brett Kulak each scored as Edmonton defeated Colorado in Denver.

Stuart Skinner made 27 saves for the Oilers, who have won three straight games. Nikolai Kovalenko scored the lone goal for the Avalanche, who dropped their third game in four outings.
