Following triumphs for Novak Djokovic and Coco Gauff at the Western & Southern Open, tennis fans and bettors turn their attention to the 2023 Winston-Salem Open.

The ATP Tour 250 Series event might not feature the biggest names in men’s tennis, but there are still plenty of betting opportunities on offer. Lucky for you, I have scoured the bookies’ odds to find the best Winston-Salem Open picks.

Before we get to my recommended Winston-Salem Open picks, let’s preview the tournament, look at the seeds for both the singles and doubles events and assess the outright odds.

2023 Winston-Salem Open Preview

  • Dates: August 20-26
  • Venue: Wake Forest University, North Carolina
  • Edition: 54th
  • Category: ATP Tour 250 Series
  • Surface: Hard/Outdoor

The 54th edition of the Winston-Salem Open will take place at Wake Forest University in North Carolina between Sunday, August 20, and Saturday, August 26.

This hard-court event is part of the ATP Tour 250 Series, although many of the highest-ranked players will not feature in the tournament due to their participation in last week’s Western & Southern Open, which was won by Novak Djokovic.

France’s Adrian Mannarino is the reigning Winston-Salem Open champion, while Matthew Ebden and Jamie Murray won last year’s doubles title. Murray is back to defend his crown this year but with a different partner – New Zealand’s Michael Venus.

Despite being the #3 seed, Sebastian Korda is the bookies’ favorite to secure the silverware in North Carolina. Borna Coric (#1) is the second favorite to lift the trophy, while Tallon Griekspoor (#3) is the third favorite.

As you can see, the outright odds are high, with the frontrunner priced at +800. There are also 16 players priced between +1600 and +2500, highlighting the competitive nature of this year’s event. As a result, landing your Winston-Salem Open picks will be no easy task.

Top 2023 Winston-Salem Open Picks

It’s time for me to share my favorite Winston-Salem Open picks with you. There are loads of matches happening every day this week, meaning there is no shortage of tennis betting opportunities to take advantage of.

I have decided to feature three singles matches taking place on Tuesday, August 22. With three of the top 15 seeds playing on Tuesday – Sebastian Korda, Yannick Hanfmann and Sebastian Ofner – these matches are bound to serve up high-quality action.

Without further ado, here are my recommended Winston-Salem Open picks.

Sebastian Ofner (+103) vs. Alex Michelsen (-143)

Sebastian Ofner heads into the 2023 Winston-Salem Open as the #15 seed. The 27-year-old Austrian may be a clay-court specialist, but he has enjoyed plenty of success on hard courts over the years.

After reaching the fourth round of the 2023 French Open, Ofner won the Salzburg Open in July. In fact, Ofner has reached no fewer than six ATP finals in 2023, suggesting that he is playing some of the best tennis of his career.

Despite being unseeded, 18-year-old American Alex Michelsen is favored to win on Tuesday. Still, I’m backing Ofner to advance to the next round. Not only does Ofner have experience on his side, but he also has very attractive odds.

Best Bet: Sebastian Ofner (+103)

Juan Manuel Cerundolo (+220) vs. Yannick Hanfmann (-323)

This matchup brings together two players at opposite ends of their careers. While Yannick Hanfmann is an experienced 31-year-old from Germany, Juan Manuel Cerundolo is an up-and-coming 21-year-old from Argentina.

As the #10 seed, Hanfmann is the bookies’ favorite to win this match. That said, the German has struggled for consistency in recent times, winning just one ATP event since 2019 while losing the Challenger Rio de Janeiro last year.

On the flip side, Cerundolo has already reached three ATP finals this year, triumphing twice on home soil before losing the Open de Oeiras final back in April. This suggests that Cerundolo will give Hanfmann a serious run for his money.

Sebastian Korda (-323) vs. Benjamin Bonzi (+220)

As we already discussed, Sebastian Korda is the bookies’ favorite to lift the trophy in North Carolina. The 23-year-old American is priced at +800, while Benjamin Bonzi is priced at +5000 to go all the way.

After reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open earlier this year, Korda is now regarded as one of the most promising young players on the ATP Tour. Plus, he will have the home crowd cheering him on this week.

It is worth remembering, however, that Bonzi also enjoyed success at the Aussie Open before continuing to establish consistency in subsequent ATP events. With that in mind, he could push Korda all the way on Tuesday.
