Second seed Alex de Minaur of Australia overcame a slow start to defeat Germany’s Jan-Lennard Struff 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the first round in Vienna. After Struff dominated the opening set, de Minaur rebounded, converting 4 of 6 break points while saving 4 of 6 to secure the win.

Luciano Darderi of Italy beat Dominic Thiem 7-6 (6), 6-2, marking the final match of the Austrian star’s career. Thiem, a former World No. 3, received a standing ovation as his racket was placed in a glass case after the match.

In other action, American No. 5 seed Frances Tiafoe, Italian No. 6 seed Lorenzo Musetti, British No. 7 seed Jack Draper, American Marcos Giron, Frenchman Gael Monfils, and Serbia’s Miomir Kecmanovic all advanced in straight sets.
