Zverev Sets Personal Record in Victory at Erste Bank Open
Top-seeded Alexander Zverev continued his impressive season by advancing to the quarterfinals of the Erste Bank Open with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Marcos Giron on Wednesday in Vienna, Austria. Zverev fired 10 aces and converted all three break points in the 73-minute match, marking his 61st singles win of the year, a new personal best, surpassing his previous career high set in 2018.
Zverev will face sixth-seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals, after Musetti advanced by walkover when France’s Gael Monfils withdrew due to illness.
In other action, Italy’s Matteo Berrettini outlasted fifth-seeded Frances Tiafoe 6-3, 6-7 (6), 6-3 in a grueling match that lasted over three hours. Additionally, No. 3 seed Grigor Dimitrov of Bulgaria moved past China’s Zhizhen Zhang 6-4, 7-5, while Brandon Nakashima upset No. 4 seed Tommy Paul 6-4, 6-4 in the first round.

Rublev Rolls into Basel Quarterfinals
Top seed Andrey Rublev of Russia powered into the quarterfinals of the Swiss Indoors Basel with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 victory over Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo. Rublev delivered 14 aces and saved the only break point he faced, securing a straightforward win. He will next face either Swiss veteran Stan Wawrinka or sixth-seeded American Ben Shelton.
Wawrinka, at 39, became the oldest match winner in Basel tournament history with his first-round victory over France’s Adrian Mannarino.
In other matches, David Goffin of Belgium edged out No. 5 seed Ugo Humbert of France 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7) in a tightly contested battle. Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut pulled off a notable upset in the first round by defeating No. 2 seed Casper Ruud of Norway 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while No. 8 seed Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada eased past Argentina’s Sebastian Baez 7-5, 6-1.
