Top seed Carlos Alcaraz endured a challenging second-round match at the Qatar ExxonMobil Open, outlasting Luca Nardi 6-1, 4-6, 6-3 on Wednesday in Doha.
The World No. 3 appeared to be cruising after taking the first set 6-1 and establishing a 4-1 lead in the second. However, Nardi, ranked No. 85, mounted a strong comeback to force a decider.
Alcaraz ultimately controlled the final set, converting 5 of 11 break points and taking advantage of Nardi’s five double faults. With this win, Alcaraz extends his ATP 500 winning streak to 12 matches.
Next, Alcaraz will face Jiri Lehecka, who dispatched Fabian Marozsan 6-4, 6-2 in his second-round match.
