Belgrade Open: Shapovalov Storms into Final

Canadian qualifier Denis Shapovalov displayed remarkable form at the Belgrade Open, racing past Czech fourth seed Jiri Lehecka with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 victory in just 56 minutes. Once ranked as high as No. 10 in the world, Shapovalov hasn’t reached an ATP final since October 2022. His only title remains from the Stockholm Open in 2019, but his performance in Belgrade hints he’s ready to change that. Dominating on serve, Shapovalov won 96.2% of his first-service points and a remarkable 83.3% on his second returns, overwhelming his opponent from the start.

In the final, Shapovalov will face Serbian wild card Hamad Medjedovic, who outlasted fellow Serbian Laslo Djere in a thrilling three-set semifinal, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (2). Medjedovic’s resilience under pressure allowed him to emerge victorious, setting up an exciting final against Shapovalov.

Moselle Open: Norrie and Bonzi Set for Final Showdown

At the Moselle Open in Metz, France, Great Britain’s Cameron Norrie and French qualifier Benjamin Bonzi will clash in the final after both secured hard-fought semifinal wins. Norrie overcame France’s Corentin Moutet with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory, doubling Moutet’s winners and converting four of five break points. The second set tested Norrie’s grit as he rallied from a 5-2 deficit in the tiebreaker, capturing five straight points to secure his place in his first final of 2024.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Bonzi reached the final by defeating American Alex Michelsen in a three-set battle, 4-6, 6-0, 7-5. Bonzi, who is seeking his first ATP tour-level trophy in front of a supportive home crowd, fired nine aces and saved seven of 10 break points. Michelsen extended the match by saving four match points, but Bonzi eventually clinched victory on his fifth opportunity.

The finals in both Belgrade and Metz promise to be thrilling matchups, as Shapovalov and Bonzi aim to add a long-awaited tour-level title to their resumes.
