Brooksby Survives Tiebreak Thriller in Houston

American Jenson Brooksby showed nerves of steel on Wednesday, fighting off three straight match points in a thrilling third-set tiebreak to beat Chile’s Alejandro Tabilo 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (6). Down 6-3 in the breaker, Brooksby clawed back to win the next five points and seal the comeback.

He tallied 32 winners against 33 unforced errors, edging out Tabilo, who fired 52 unforced errors—just too much to overcome.

In other Houston action, Colton Smith defeated fellow American Ethan Quinn 6-3, 6-4.

Top-seeded Tommy Paul was also scheduled for the day’s slate.

Elsewhere, Francisco Comesana eliminated Roberto Bautista Agut 6-4, 3-6, 6-3. Meanwhile, the match between top-seeded Sebastian Baez and Canada’s Gabriel Diallo was paused due to rain after both players split the first two sets.
