Denis Shapovalov Claims Belgrade Open for Second ATP Title
Denis Shapovalov captured his second ATP Tour title—and first in five years—by defeating Serbian favorite Hamad Medjedovic 6-4, 6-4 at the Belgrade Open on Saturday. Shapovalov, Canada’s former top-10 player, won his only other title in Stockholm back in 2019. This latest win was particularly memorable, as Shapovalov received the trophy from Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic.
Shapovalov’s impressive performance featured 13 aces and a dominant 82% winning percentage on first-serve points, securing victory in just 77 minutes. The 25-year-old battled through injuries that sidelined him for much of 2023 and has spent this season regaining his form. For Medjedovic, 21, it marked his debut in an ATP final.
