The Buffalo Bills cannot afford another slow start tonight as they take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football. The Bills have scored 10 first-half points in each of their last three games. They are 1-2 SU and 0-3 ATS in those three games. Buffalo comes into tonight as a 9.5-point home chalk and needs a win to keep pace with the AFC East-leading Miami Dolphins (5-2).
It helps that Buffalo gets a Tampa Bay team that is coming off two straight losses. Like the Bills, the Bucs have struggled offensively. They have managed just one touchdown and 19 points in their last two games. Buffalo is a top-10 defense ranking seventh against the pass (190.2 ypg) and third in scoring defense giving up 14.8 points per game. Tonight, Buffalo must play a complete game to get a much-needed win.
Buffalo Excels at Home
Buffalo QB Josh Allen has only thrown for 434 yards over the last two games. At home at Highmark Stadium, Allen averages almost 20 more passing yards per game. Allen throws for 276.3 yards a game at home. The Bills have done extremely well at home over the past four seasons. They have started this season 3-1 at home and have a 23-6 record at Highmark Stadium since 2020.
In addition to playing in the comforts of his home stadium, Allen is probably excited to be going up against Tampa Bay’s pass defense. The Bucs, who have had some key injuries, rank 26th in the NFL against the pass. They are allowing 247 passing yards per game and Allen and Buffalo are going to use that to their advantage.
Another advantage for Buffalo is Tampa Bay’s penchant for weak performances in primetime games. In their last six games played under the lights, the Bucs are 0-6 ATS. In Thursday night games, they are even worse. Tampa Bay is 1-9 ATS in their last ten Thursday night games. Their biggest problem in primetime has been an inability to score. In 9 of their last 11 primetime games, the Under has cashed.

All Eyes on the Spurs’ Wembenyana
It was NBA fans first look at No. 1 draft pick Victor Wembenyana last night. San Antonio hosted Dallas, which added to the overall flair of the game as NBA superstar Luka Doncic plays for the Mavericks. In the end, it was Doncic who would lead his team to a season-opening win, but the hype surrounding Wembenyana is incredible. He is trending and may be trending for quite a while.
The Spurs rookie had 15 points and five rebounds in 23 minutes of play. Head coach Gregg Popovich was pleased with his rookie’s first game. Wembenyana was overshadowed by Doncic who recorded a triple-double with 33 points, 13 rebounds, and 10 assists.
Wemby is not the only trending sports news.
- Porzingis sets Boston record: Wembenyana wasn’t the only ridiculously tall NBA player in the news. Kristaps Porzingis made his Celtics debut last night and it was a beauty. The 7-foot-3-inch Porzings scored 30 points, grabbed 8 rebounds, and blocked 4 shots as Boston beat New York in the season opener. The 30 points was a franchise record for a player making his Celtics debut.
- Astros manager retiring: Dusty Baker, who has spent 26 years managing MLB teams, is calling it quits after Houston was defeated by Texas in the ALCS. Baker is 74 and he’ll be eligible for the Hall of Fame in three years. He is seventh on the all-time win list. His 57 playoff wins rank him fourth.

Meanwhile, little brother Michigan State is still trying to hammer former head coach Mel Tucker. The university announced yesterday that Tucker did violate the school’s sexual misconduct policy. Meanwhile, the Wolverines are 8-0 and ranked No. 2 in the country. The Spartans are 2-5 and have lost five straight.
- The NBA: The league got off to a great start last night after its season-opening doubleheader on Tuesday. There were 12 games on the schedule last night and they didn’t disappoint. Two more games are on tap tonight. We’ll mention those when we talk about today’s schedule.
