Sports handicappers have a bit more time to finalize their CFL Week 8 picks. This week’s CFL action will get underway on Friday night when the red-hot Redblacks host the Tiger-Cats.

There’s a CFL doubleheader on Saturday, including the Touchdown Atlantic game between the Argonauts and Roughriders at Huskies Stadium in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The Elks will look to snap a 20-game home losing streak against the Lions. The Alouettes host the Stampeders on Sunday to close out the week.

CFL Week 7 Results and Betting Recap

Here are the CFL Week 7 results:

  • Elks 14 vs. Blue Bombers 28 – Elks (+14.5) Covered ATS and Under 45
  • Argonauts 31 vs. Tiger-Cats 15 – Argonauts (-9.5) Covered ATS and Under 50
  • Roughriders 9 vs. Lions 19 – Lions (-10) Pushed and Under 45.5

Favorites ended up going 3-1 (1-2-1 ATS) in Week 7 and are now 15-11 (13-12-1 ATS) this season. The over/under record was 1-3 last week and now sitting at 12-15 for the season. After a pair of 2-2 weeks, I went undefeated on my CFL Week 7 picks (3-0-1 for +$300) and I’m now 16-9 (+$665) this season.

Let’s dig into my CFL Week 8 picks and see if we can go undefeated again.

Tiger-Cats vs. Redblacks Prediction for Week 8

  • When: Friday, July 28th 2023 at 7:30 PM ET
  • Where: TD Place in Ottawa, Ontario
  • Opening Spread: Redblacks -5 / Current Spread: Redblacks -3.5
  • Opening Total: 49 Points / Current Total: 49 Points

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats (2-4 / 2-4 ATS) are expected to have QB Bo Levi Mitchell back on Friday when they take on the Ottawa Redblacks (3-3 / 3-3 ATS). Hamilton defeated Ottawa in Week 5 (21-13).

Ottawa are scoring 23.3 PPG (5th) and allowing 23.7 PPG (5th). The Ti-Cats are scoring 21.7 PPG (6th), but they allow a league-worst 30.8 PPG. The Redblacks rushing attack (129.0 RYPG – 2nd) should find running lanes against the Tiger-Cats rushing defense (115.7 RYPG Allowed – 7th).

Hamilton wants to air it out, as the Redblacks allow 311.3 PYPG (9th). WRs Tim White (17.7 YPC – 2nd) and D’haquille Williams (16.0 YPC – 5th) are both capable of breaking off big plays. Since last season, Hamilton are 4-0 (2-2 ATS) against Ottawa. Ottawa haven’t defeated the Ti-Cats since November 2018.

Best Bet: Hamilton Tiger-Cats +3.5

Roughriders vs. Argonauts Prediction for Week 8

  • When: Saturday, July 29th 2023 at 4:00 PM ET
  • Where: Huskies Stadium in Halifax, Nova Scotia
  • Opening Spread: Argonauts -10.5 / Current Spread: Argonauts -10.5
  • Opening Total: 48.5 Points / Current Total: 47 Points

The Toronto Argonauts (5-0 / 5-0 ATS) are big favorites against the Saskatchewan Roughriders (3-3 / 3-2-1 ATS). These teams played the Atlantic Touchdown game last season and the Argos won (30-24).

QB Mason Fine went 31/40 for 278 yards, 0 TDs and 2 INTs last week. He’ll need to watch the turnovers this week, as the Argonauts rank 1st in interceptions made (12). The Argos are scoring 37.2 PPG (1st) and allowing 22.2 PPG (T3), while the Riders are scoring 20.8 PPG (8th) and allowing 24.5 PPG (6th).

Toronto’s QB Chad Kelly ranks 1st in QB rating (116.5). RB A.J. Ouellette leads the CFL in rushing TDs (5) and ranks 2nd in rushing yards (393). Toronto rank 1st in rushing yards (129.6 RYPG) and 2nd in passing yards (281.6 PYPG). The Riders need to attack the Argos passing defense (305.6 PYPG – 8th).

Lions vs. Elks Prediction for Week 8

  • When: Saturday, July 29th 2023 at 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: BC Place in Vancouver, British Columbia
  • Opening Spread: Lions -9 / Current Spread: Lions -7.5
  • Opening Total: 43.5 Points / Current Total: 43.5 Points

The BC Lions (5-1 / 4-1-1 ATS) take on the winless Edmonton Elks (0-7 / 2-5 ATS). The Lions will be one of the most popular CFL Week 8 picks, but they’ll be without QB Vernon Adams Jr. this week.

Edmonton are 0-3 (0-3 ATS) at home this season. The Elks are scoring 15.0 PPG (9th) and allowing 26.4 PPG (7th). The Lions are scoring 25.8 PPG (3rd) and allowing 15.7 PPG (1st). Edmonton are very weak against the run (144.9 RYPG Allowed – 9th), but the Lions only average 84.3 RYPG (7th).

QB Dane Evans went 16/25 for 219 yards, 1 TD and 1 INT last week against the Riders. The Lions lead the CFL in passing yards (294.5 PYPG), but Evans isn’t Adams Jr. and the Elks allow 254.7 PYPG (3rd).

BC are 5-0 (5-0 ATS) in the last five H2H games and their lowest margin of victory was 17 points in that stretch. The last two H2H games have gone under the total, but this week’s total is low.

Stampeders vs. Alouettes Prediction for Week 8

  • When: Sunday, July 30th 2023 at 7:00 PM ET
  • Where: Percival Molson Memorial Stadium in Montreal, Quebec
  • Opening Spread: Alouettes -2.5 / Current Spread: Alouettes -2.5
  • Opening Total: 47 Points / Current Total: 47 Points

The Calgary Stampeders (2-4 / 2-4 ATS) are 2-1 ATS on the road. The Montreal Alouettes (2-3 / 2-3 ATS) are coming off a much-needed bye week, as they’ve lost three consecutive games by 8+ points.

Calgary have the edge on offense. Calgary’s offense is averaging 25.3 PPG (4th), 280.0 PYPG (4th) and 87.2 RYPG (5th). The Als offense averages 21.2 PPG (7th), 280.2 PYPG (3rd) and 80.6 RYPG (9th).

The Alouettes are allowing 22.2 PPG (T3) and the Stampeders are allowing 27.8 PPG (8th). These teams don’t play each other often, but the Stamps are 2-0 (2-0 ATS) since 2021 and both games went over. QB Jake Maier is coming off his best game of the season, as he went 28/38 for 450 yards, 4 TDs and 2 INTs.

CFL Week 8 Picks – Touchdown Scorers

CFL props betting is exciting and offers football fans more opportunities to win. For my CFL Week 8 picks, I’m betting on WR Austin Mack to score a touchdown (+100) against the Stampeders.

The Stamps have allowed nine passing TDs (T7). Mack hasn’t scored a touchdown during the Alouettes losing streak in July, but he has had 21 receptions (10+ targets per game) in those three losses.

Best Bet: Austin Mack Anytime Touchdown (+100)

CFL Week 8 Picks – Player Props

My best CFL Week 8 props pick is on QB Mason Fine to throw for over 245.5 passing yards. Fine had his first start last week and he threw for 278 yards against the Lions top-ranked passing defense.

Toronto are allowing 86.9 more passing yards per game than BC. Only the Redblacks are giving up more passing yards than the Argonauts. Toronto are big favorites and should be playing with a lead most of the game, which will force Fine to step back in the pocket and air it out.

Best Bet: Mason Fine Over 245.5 Passing Yards (-115)
