Let’s take a look at my World Cup qualifiers picks. We are still two years away from the 2026 World Cup that is set to take place across North America in the United States, Canada and Mexico. However, preparations have already begun for South American teams.

CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifiers get underway this week as the likes of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Chile and Colombia battle it out for a spot at the 2026 World Cup. With no Premier League or Euro soccer on action for the next couple of weeks, Sports Hub is still here to provide soccer picks for you!

There are a number of high-quality CONMEBOL qualifiers on show this week and next and many South American teams will be keen to get off to a good start. Below you can find my CONMEBOL 2026 World Cup qualifiers picks.

CONMEBOL Recap & Update

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar seems an eternity ago but that was the last competitive action for South American teams. Before I get into my World Cup qualifiers picks, here is a list of CONMEBOL teams that featured in the last World Cup:

  • Argentina
  • Brazil
  • Ecuador
  • Uruguay

The top-four from 2022 World Cup qualification secured an automatic spot in the tournament. Peru, who finished in fifth-place, had to play in further qualifiers. However, they lost to Australia in a playoff which meant they were unable to make an appearance in Qatar.

Brazil topped the qualifying group for the last World Cup, conceding just five goals across their 17 matches. They picked up 45 points out of a possible 51. Argentina finished in second, followed by Uruguay and Ecuador.

2022 World Cup Performances

It certainly was a historic World Cup in the Middle East. Lionel Messi crowned off his career by winning the tournament as Argentina played out one of the greatest ever World Cup finals against France. Messi will lead his side once more during qualification, even if he doesn’t feature in the tournament in 2026.

Despite impressing during the group stage and putting South Korea to the sword with a vehement 4-1 win in the round of 16, Brazil underwhelmed last winter. They were knocked out at the quarter-final stage by Croatia after penalty shootout heartbreak. Many expected them to at least reach the semi-finals and they were strong candidates to lift the trophy.

The final two CONMEBOL sides failed to make it out of the groups in what were disappointing World Cup campaigns for Uruguay and Ecuador. The former narrowly missed out on a spot in the knockouts, despite finishing level on points with South Korea. The latter only lost one game but finished two points behind Senegal.

Friendlies

South American sides have only featured in friendly matches since the World Cup. It has been business as usual for Argentina who have won all four of their games without conceding a single goal.

However, Brazil will not enter the 2026 World Cup qualifiers on the best of form since they have lost two of their three friendly matches. That was against Morocco and Senegal, whilst their only victory came in a 4-1 win over Guinea.

Uruguay have looked strong and are unbeaten across their four exhibition matches. They drew against Japan before defeating South Korea, Nicaragua and Cuba. Fellow 2022 World Cup side Ecuador have won three from four, losing to Australia before picking up wins against Australia in the rematch, Bolivia and Costa Rica.

A team that has impressed in their friendly matches this calendar year are Colombia. They are looking to bounce back after failing to qualify for the Qatar World Cup. They are undefeated in their five friendly matches in 2023, drawing against the USA and South Korea before beating Japan, Iraq and Germany.

Chile and Venezuela have also been solid, failing to suffer a defeat in their friendlies this year. However, both Peru and Bolivia have been disappointing and have won just one of their respective four and five friendlies in 2023. Paraguay played in just two games, losing against Chile before beating Nicaragua.

CONMEBOL FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Picks

That was our recap for all of the CONMEBOL nations of late. Now you should feel completely up to speed on what’s been happening. That means it’s almost time for World Cup qualifiers picks!

However, there have been some slight rule changes to qualification ahead of the 2026 World Cup that you need to know about. This is because 48 teams will enter the World Cup in the latest edition, as opposed to just 32 in previous tournaments.

The number of qualifying spots for CONMEBOL qualification has been increased from four to six. There is also an additional seventh-place spot. The team that finishes in seventh will have to go into an intercontinental playoff, like Peru did for the 2022 World Cup.

This puts less pressure on the likes of Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay since they are almost certain of securing qualification. That could spring up a few surprise results, with head coaches experimenting with different players and tactics. Nevertheless, it’s time to get into my CONMEBOL FIFA 2026 World Cup Qualifiers Picks.

CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers Picks – Argentina vs Ecuador Prediction

Current world champions Argentina kick off their 2026 qualification with a home contest in Buenos Aires against Ecuador. This match will feature the first of my World Cup qualifiers picks. You can find the current odds for the match below:

  • Argentina (-357)
  • Draw (+400)
  • Ecuador (+900)

La Albiceleste are the heavy favorites to triumph in this one as the World Cup champions get back into competitive action. They have been flying ever since lifting the trophy and so are favorites for a good reason.

Although Argentina haven’t played much challenging opposition of late, the momentum is still flowing. It is still incredibly impressive that they didn’t concede a goal in their friendly matches prior to the qualifiers here. Head coach Lionel Scaloni is yet to suffer a defeat in World Cup qualifiers for Argentina.

Ecuador have looked solid too and have won three on the bounce heading into this one. Nevertheless, the quality of Argentina should be enough. There isn’t much value on the money line but a -1½  handicap looks like a good bet. Especially since the likes of Messi, Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez are in top form.

Best Bet: Argentina -1½ (-105)

CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers Picks – Colombia vs Venezuela Prediction

Colombia begin their 2026 qualifiers with a home matchup against Venezuela who are the only South American team yet to qualify for the World Cup finals. Check out the current odds for the game here:

  • Colombia (-303)
  • Draw (+360)
  • Venezuela (+780)

The visitors are huge underdogs and they will likely struggle against a Colombia side who have looked good of late. The hosts will be able to call upon Premier League stars such as Luis Diaz, Jefferson Lerma and Luis Sinisterra.

Colombia look to have a good balance to their squad and will be desperate to qualify for the tournament this time around after last year’s disappointment. Venezuela will be hoping to call upon the quality of veteran Salomon Rondon and Inter Miami’s Josef Martinez, whilst captain Tomas Rincon will be expected to earn his 127th cap.

I am avoiding the money line again due to Colombia being heavy favorites but sign in to Sports Hub to find out what pick I am selecting for this match.

CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifiers Picks – Paraguay vs Peru Prediction

The final selection for my World Cup qualifiers picks will be for the Paraguay vs Peru match. Neither side featured at the last World Cup but both have a much greater chance this time around due to the extra spots on offer. Here are the current odds for the affair:

  • Paraguay (-104)
  • Draw (+235)
  • Peru (+270)

Paraguay had a very disappointing qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup. They finished second from bottom and picked up just 16 points from 18 games. Peru were unfortunate not to qualify, finishing in fifth before being defeated by Australia in a playoff.

The hosts haven’t played much soccer since and have featured in just two friendlies this year. Peru have played in four but have won just one game. Nevertheless, they have faced some tough opposition and have put in some encouraging displays.

Home advantage should help Paraguay but it won’t be easy against Peru. The visitors will look to the likes of Yoshimar Yotún, captain Paolo Guerrero and Wilder Cartagena to make the difference. Sign in to Sports Hub to get access to this World Cup qualifiers pick.
