The 2023 Formula 1 season was all about one man – Max Verstappen. The 26-year-old effortlessly picked up his third consecutive World Drivers’ Championship title, breaking countless records along the way.

Ever since Verstappen overtook Lewis Hamilton on the final lap of the final race in 2021, the Dutchman has completely dominated the sport. Now, only five drivers in history have won more F1 championships than the Red Bull superstar.

Following another remarkable season, it’s only right that we pay homage to the best in the business. Here are the incredible stats behind Max Verstappen’s F1 dominance in 2023.

Making a Mockery of the F1 Points Record

Max Verstappen achieved many things in 2023, but his final points tally will always be remembered as one of his greatest achievements. Indeed, the Red Bull star racked up a whopping 575 points, smashing his own record from 2022.

2023 WORLD DRIVERS’ CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS (TOP 10)

  1. Max Verstappen – 575
  2. Sergio Perez – 285
  3. Lewis Hamilton – 234

  7. Carlos Sainz – 200
  8. George Russell – 175
  9. Oscar Piastri – 97
  10. Lance Stroll – 74

Verstappen picked up 454 points during his second title-winning season, surpassing Lewis Hamilton’s record of 413. The Dutchman beat his own record by a mind-boggling 121 points in 2023, underlining his dominance.

Unsurprisingly, Verstappen also created the biggest points gap between first and second in F1 history, finishing 290 points clear of his Red Bull teammate, Sergio Perez.  Let’s not forget that Perez was driving the same car!

2023 WORLD CONSTRUCTORS’ CHAMPIONSHIP STANDINGS

  1. Red Bull – 860
  2. Mercedes – 409
  3. Ferrari – 406
  4. McLaren – 302
  5. Aston Martin – 280
  6. Alpine – 120
  7. Williams – 28
  8. AlphaTauri – 25
  9. Alfa Romeo – 16
  10. Haas – 12

Verstappen also helped Red Bull shatter the record for most points won by a constructor in a single F1 season. Red Bull racked up 860 points in 2023, beating Mercedes’ record of 765 from 2016.

How Many Races Did Max Verstappen Win in 2023?

You’re probably wondering how many races Max Verstappen won during his record-breaking season. Believe it or not, the Dutchman won 19 of the 22 races in 2023, setting a record that may never be broken.

MAX VERSTAPPEN RECORDS IN 2023 – RACE WINS

  • Most wins in a single F1 season (19)
  • Highest percentage of wins in a season (86%)
  • Most consecutive F1 victories (10)
  • Most F1 wins from pole position (12)
  • Most consecutive wins from pole position (16)

In 2022, Verstappen won 15 races to surpass Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s record of 13 victories in a single F1 season. In 2023, the Red Bull driver broke his own record by securing 19 race victories, giving him a win percentage of 86%.

Verstappen enjoyed a couple of lengthy winning streaks in 2023, finishing the season with a run of seven successive victories. However, his 10-race winning streak between May and September is officially the longest winning streak in F1 history.

On top of that, the 26-year-old won 12 races from pole position throughout the season, meaning he has converted each of his previous 16 poles into victories.

More Max Verstappen Records

As we already mentioned, Max Verstappen smashed countless F1 records in 2023. From the most podiums, hat-tricks and top-two finishes in a season to the highest percentage of laps led, here are some of the many other records that Verstappen broke in 2023.

MORE RECORDS THAT HIGHLIGHT VERSTAPPEN’S DOMINANCE

  • Most podiums in a single F1 season (21)
  • Most F1 hat-tricks in a season (6)
  • Most consecutive top-two finishes (15)
  • Most laps led in a single F1 season (1,003)
  • Highest percentage of laps led in a season (71.47%)
  • Only driver to win three F1 races in one country during a single season
  • Most pit stops by the winning driver in a single race (6)
  • Most races left before winning the F1 championship (6)
  • Most consecutive F1 points scored (1,004)
  • Most consecutive races as championship leader (39)

Remarkably, Verstappen finished on the podium in all but one of the races during the 2023 campaign, notching 15 consecutive top-two finishes between March and September. The only exception was the Singapore Grand Prix where he finished fifth.

The three-time champ also managed to chalk up six hat-tricks throughout the season. For those unaware, an F1 hat-trick is when a driver achieves pole position, wins the race and registers the fastest lap on a Grand Prix weekend.

Furthermore, Verstappen led for a record 1,003 laps, amassing the highest percentage of laps lead in a single F1 season (71.47%). He even managed to win three races in one country thanks to triumphs in Miami, Austin and Las Vegas.

In all honesty, we could list off Verstappen’s achievements all day long. The amazing thing is – he broke many of his own records in 2023!

Can Max Verstappen Become the Greatest F1 Driver of All Time?

Many fans would argue that Max Verstappen is already among the greatest Formula 1 drivers in history. After all, only five men have won more World Drivers’ Championships over the years, and they are all bona fide legends of the sport.

Schumacher and Hamilton share the record with seven titles, while Juan Manuel Fangio has five titles to his name. Alain Prost and Sebastian Vettel each won four championships, meaning Verstappen can – and probably will – join that group in 2024.

Of course, there is no denying that Red Bull is the strongest constructor by a considerable margin right now, giving Verstappen an edge. With Mercedes, Ferrari and McLaren struggling to keep pace, Red Bull’s dominance looks set to continue.

That said, the best drivers deserve to drive the best cars. Verstappen’s fearlessness and unrivalled control make him the best driver on the current grid, and those qualities could make him the best F1 driver of all time in the coming years.
