In a dramatic afternoon of Major League Baseball, Jake Bauers’ go-ahead RBI single in the bottom of the eighth inning propelled the Milwaukee Brewers to an astonishing 10-9 comeback victory over the visiting Arizona Diamondbacks. Trailing by eight runs, the Brewers mounted an incredible rally to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

Milwaukee initially faced an 8-0 deficit, with Arizona’s offensive fireworks headlined by a seven-run third inning. Josh Bell launched a two-run homer, followed immediately by a solo shot from Eugenio Suárez. Jake McCarthy’s two-run single added to Arizona’s early advantage. However, the Brewers chipped away at the lead before surging ahead in the eighth inning. Garrett Mitchell started the comeback with an RBI single, and Rhys Hoskins followed with a game-tying two-run single. Bauers then delivered the crucial go-ahead hit, sending Milwaukee to its first lead of the day.

The Diamondbacks’ Ketel Marte, Josh Bell, and Eugenio Suárez all homered, but it wasn’t enough to hold off the resilient Brewers. With this loss, Arizona fell into a tie with the New York Mets for the final two National League Wild Card spots, both teams two games ahead of the Atlanta Braves.

Padres 4, White Sox 2

A late-game rally in the eighth inning lifted the San Diego Padres to a 4-2 win over the visiting Chicago White Sox. This victory moved the Padres closer to securing a National League playoff spot while pushing the White Sox closer to a historic low.

The White Sox (36-120) tied the 1962 New York Mets for the most single-season losses in modern MLB history. With one more defeat in their final six games, Chicago will break the unwanted record.

Jeremiah Estrada (6-2) pitched a clean eighth inning to secure the win for the Padres, who improved to 90-66, marking their first 90-win season since 2010. San Diego now holds a three-game lead over the Diamondbacks and Mets for the NL’s top Wild Card spot and remains three games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West race.

Mets 2, Phillies 1

Brandon Nimmo’s solo home run in the sixth inning helped the New York Mets edge the Philadelphia Phillies 2-1, preventing the Phillies from clinching the National League East title in the final game of their four-game series.

Edwin Díaz earned his first six-out save since August 2022, as the Mets continued their late-season surge, winning 18 of their last 23 games. Phillies starter Zack Wheeler took a tough loss, allowing just two runs over seven-plus innings, striking out eight.

Dodgers 6, Rockies 5

Shohei Ohtani tied the game with a solo home run to lead off the ninth inning, followed by Mookie Betts’ walk-off homer, as the Los Angeles Dodgers rallied to defeat the Colorado Rockies 6-5.

Ohtani, who continues his remarkable season, went 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, hitting his 53rd home run. His performance leaves him as the clear favorite to become the first designated hitter to win an MVP award. Betts’ blast completed the Dodgers’ comeback, securing a crucial win as they pursue the NL West title.

For the Rockies, Brendan Rodgers and Nolan Jones each drove in two runs, but their bullpen couldn’t hold the lead. Colorado remains in danger of enduring back-to-back 100-loss seasons.

Rangers 6, Mariners 5

Marcus Semien’s walk-off RBI single capped off the Texas Rangers’ thrilling comeback, earning them a 6-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners in Arlington.

Leody Taveras singled and stole second, setting up Semien’s heroics in the ninth inning. The Mariners led 5-0 before the Rangers clawed back with a four-run sixth inning, followed by Taveras’ game-tying solo homer in the seventh. The win prevented a Mariners sweep and snapped Seattle’s three-game winning streak.

Tigers 4, Orioles 3

Kerry Carpenter hit two solo home runs as the Detroit Tigers held off the Baltimore Orioles for a 4-3 win. Spencer Torkelson also homered for the Tigers, who managed just five hits but won two of three games in the series. Detroit has won seven of its last nine games, keeping pace with the Kansas City Royals in the race for the AL Wild Card.

Despite a strong performance from Cedric Mullins, who homered for the Orioles, Baltimore struggled offensively, managing just one hit through the first four innings. The Orioles are still in a tight race for postseason positioning.

Red Sox Sweep Doubleheader Against Twins

Game 1: Red Sox 8, Twins 1

Triston Casas powered the Boston Red Sox to an 8-1 victory in the first game of a doubleheader, hitting three home runs and driving in seven RBIs. Casas’ offensive explosion—two three-run homers and a solo shot—helped Boston cruise to a decisive win over the Minnesota Twins.

Twins starter Pablo López (15-9) endured a rough outing, surrendering seven runs on nine hits over four innings, and the Twins couldn’t muster much offense to respond.

Game 2: Red Sox 9, Twins 3

In the nightcap, Romy Gonzalez delivered a three-run home run and four RBIs as the Red Sox completed the doubleheader sweep with a 9-3 win. Gonzalez’s homer in the fifth inning gave Boston the lead, and a six-run sixth inning sealed the victory.

The Twins, reeling from the losses, have dropped four of their last five games.

Cardinals 2, Guardians 1

Andre Pallante pitched a gem, allowing just one hit over seven innings to lead the St. Louis Cardinals to a 2-1 win over the Cleveland Guardians. Pallante improved to 8-8 on the season, striking out four and allowing just one run.

Masyn Winn drew a walk in the seventh to bring home the winning run, and the Cardinals bullpen secured the victory, with Ryan Helsley earning his 47th save.

Pirates 2, Reds 0

Paul Skenes delivered a dominant performance, striking out nine over five scoreless innings as the Pittsburgh Pirates blanked the Cincinnati Reds 2-0. Oneil Cruz and Nick Yorke both homered to provide the Pirates’ offense.

Skenes lowered his ERA to 1.99 with his outing, winning all three of his starts against the Reds this season. Hunter Greene, making his first start in over a month for Cincinnati, allowed just one run over three innings.

Braves 5, Marlins 4

Jorge Soler’s go-ahead RBI in the seventh inning propelled the Atlanta Braves to a crucial 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins. Ozzie Albies and Gio Urshela homered for the Braves, while the Marlins countered with solo shots from Jonah Bride, Jake Burger, and Jesus Sanchez.

Atlanta has now won four of its last five games as they chase a postseason berth.

Angels 9, Astros 8

Zach Neto’s three-run double in the ninth inning capped off his six-RBI day and lifted the Los Angeles Angels to a 9-8 victory over the Houston Astros. Neto also homered twice, helping the Angels erase a 4-0 deficit.

Despite the loss, the Astros maintain a five-game lead in the AL West.

Rays 4, Blue Jays 3

Brandon Lowe’s late-game heroics, including his 20th home run, helped the Tampa Bay Rays sweep the Toronto Blue Jays with a 4-3 win in St. Petersburg. Morel’s sacrifice fly in the seventh proved crucial, as Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s RBI single in the ninth brought the Blue Jays within one run, but the Rays held on for their fourth consecutive victory.

Giants 2, Royals 0

Grant McCray’s RBI triple and Blake Snell’s dominant pitching led the San Francisco Giants to a 2-0 win, completing a surprising sweep of the Kansas City Royals. Snell struck out nine over six shutout innings, and the Giants’ bullpen closed out the Royals, who have now lost seven straight games.

Yankees 7, Athletics 4

Aaron Judge’s 55th home run and contributions from Jasson Dominguez and Gleyber Torres helped the New York Yankees clinch at least a tie for the AL East title with a 7-4 win over the Oakland Athletics. Judge’s blast capped a New York rally, erasing Oakland’s early 2-0 lead. Tyler Soderstrom’s two-RBI double accounted for the Athletics’ offense.

Cubs 5, Nationals 0

Shota Imanaga tossed seven scoreless innings, and Chicago’s offense hit three homers in a 5-0 win over the Washington Nationals. Mike Tauchman, Michael Busch, and Miguel Amaya went deep for the Cubs as Imanaga continued his dominant season.
