Betts Blasts Dodgers to Extra-Inning Win Over Tigers

Mookie Betts capped a two-homer night with a walk-off, three-run blast in the 10th inning as the Los Angeles Dodgers stormed back to defeat the Detroit Tigers 8-5. Betts, who also went deep earlier in the game, powered a five-run 10th inning rally for a Dodgers team that has now started the season 4-0 for the first time since 1981.

Yoshinobu Yamamoto tallied a career-best 10 strikeouts over five innings for L.A., while Luis Garcia (1-0) earned the win. Dillon Dingler and Gleyber Torres homered for Detroit, which dropped its second straight game after holding leads in both.

Misner Walk-Off HR Lifts Rays Over Rockies

Kameron Misner crushed a walk-off homer on the first pitch of the bottom of the ninth to lift the Tampa Bay Rays to a 3-2 win over the Colorado Rockies in their Opening Day home debut at Tampa’s Steinbrenner Field. Misner’s blast marked his first big league home run.

Colorado wasted a dominant start from Kyle Freeland, who faced just 20 batters over six scoreless innings. Pete Fairbanks (1-0) earned the win in relief for the Rays.

Kevin Gausman delivered six solid innings and Toronto erupted for five runs in the fourth en route to an 8-2 win over the Orioles. Gausman (1-0) allowed just three hits and struck out four. Toronto’s offense racked up 14 hits, with Ernie Clement delivering a key two-run double in the seventh.

Jackson Holliday homered for Baltimore, while Charlie Morton (0-1) lasted only 3 1/3 innings in the loss.

Juan Soto launched a solo home run and Tylor Megill (1-0) struck out six over five-plus innings to lead the New York Mets to a 3-1 win over the Houston Astros. Soto’s third-inning homer provided a spark as the Mets evened their three-game set.

Jonah Heim homered twice and rookie right-hander Jack Leiter (1-0) collected his first major league win as the Texas Rangers defeated the Boston Red Sox 4-1. Leiter allowed one run over five innings, and Luke Jackson closed it out for his first save.

Boston’s Tanner Houck (0-1) allowed four runs over 5 2/3 innings. Wilyer Abreu drove in the Red Sox’s only run.

Eugenio Suarez hit a pair of two-run homers and Merrill Kelly (1-0) tossed 5 1/3 solid innings as the Arizona Diamondbacks rolled past the Chicago Cubs 8-1. Suarez’s homers came in the second and fourth innings, driving in a red-hot Pavin Smith both times.

Jameson Taillon (0-1) gave up nine hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings for Chicago.

Cronenworth Clutch as Padres Edge Braves

Jake Cronenworth belted a solo homer in the eighth inning to break a tie and lift the Padres to a 4-3 win over the Braves. Fernando Tatis Jr. also homered for San Diego, which improved to 2-0.

Jarred Kelenic hit a solo shot for Atlanta, but Dylan Lee (0-1) gave up the go-ahead blast to Cronenworth. Robert Suarez earned his second save.

Athletics Blank Mariners Behind Springs

Jeffrey Springs fanned nine across six scoreless innings and Brent Rooker homered as the Oakland Athletics shut out the Seattle Mariners 7-0. Max Muncy and Luis Urias also homered late to seal the win.

Luis Castillo (0-1) allowed two runs over five innings for the Mariners, who managed just three hits.
