Rookie Weston Wilson made history Thursday night by becoming the first Philadelphia Phillies rookie to hit for the cycle. His stellar performance, combined with back-to-back home runs from Alec Bohm and Nick Castellanos in the first inning, led the Phillies to a dominant 13-3 victory over the visiting Washington Nationals.

Wilson’s memorable night included a triple and single in the fourth inning, a solo homer in the seventh, and a double in the eighth to complete the cycle. Johan Rojas added three RBIs, while Trea Turner contributed with a two-run double among his three hits.

Zack Wheeler (12-5) earned the win for the Phillies, allowing just two runs (one earned) on three hits across six strong innings.

Keibert Ruiz provided the Nationals’ only highlight with two solo home runs, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Phillies. Washington’s Mitchell Parker (6-7) struggled, surrendering nine runs on 10 hits in just over three innings, as the Nationals fell to 1-6 against Philadelphia this season.

Tigers Sweep Mariners Thanks to Baez’s Late Homer

Javier Baez came through in the clutch, hitting a two-run homer with two outs in the eighth inning to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 2-1 win over the Seattle Mariners, completing a three-game sweep.

Baez’s sixth home run of the season, which was also just Detroit’s third hit of the game, proved to be the difference. A quartet of Tigers pitchers held the Mariners to just one hit, with Shelby Miller (6-7) earning the win in relief and Jason Foley picking up his 16th save.

Seattle’s Bryce Miller was impressive, allowing just two hits and striking out nine over seven scoreless innings, but Andres Munoz (2-4) took the loss after giving up Baez’s game-winning homer.

Orioles Take Down Red Sox with Power and Pitching

Gunnar Henderson and Cedric Mullins each homered, and Zach Eflin delivered six strong innings as the Baltimore Orioles opened a four-game series against the Boston Red Sox with a 5-1 victory.

Colton Cowser and Henderson both collected two hits for the Orioles, who have now won two straight games and pulled into a tie for first place in the American League East with the idle New York Yankees.

Boston’s Wilyer Abreu hit a solo home run, and Ceddanne Rafaela had two hits, but the Red Sox continued to struggle, losing their second straight game and sixth in their last eight.

Brewers Rally to Defeat Dodgers 6-4

The Milwaukee Brewers staged a late rally, scoring three runs in the eighth inning to secure a 6-4 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

After falling behind 4-3, the Brewers loaded the bases with no outs against Dodgers reliever Daniel Hudson (6-2). Willy Adames tied the game with an RBI single, and Tyler Black drove in the go-ahead run with a groundout. Rhys Hoskins added an insurance run with another groundout to make it 6-4.

Devin Williams closed out the game with a perfect ninth inning, striking out two for his third save of the season. Bryan Hudson (5-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief.

Twins Edge Rangers with Ninth-Inning Sacrifice Fly

Carlos Santana’s sacrifice fly in the ninth inning proved to be the difference as the Minnesota Twins edged the Texas Rangers 3-2 in Arlington, Texas.

Willi Castro homered, and Kyle Farmer had two hits for the Twins, who have now won three of their last four games. Bailey Ober started for Minnesota, allowing two runs on seven hits over six innings. Jorge Alcala (3-3) earned the win in relief, while Jhoan Duran picked up his 17th save.

Adolis Garcia led the Rangers with three hits, and Marcus Semien added two more, but Texas couldn’t capitalize, losing for the fourth time in their last five games. Despite a solid outing from starter Cody Bradford, who allowed two runs in six innings, Kirby Yates (4-2) took the loss.

Giants Shut Out Braves to Avoid Sweep

Logan Webb delivered a dominant performance, pitching 7 2/3 shutout innings as the San Francisco Giants defeated the Atlanta Braves 6-0, avoiding a sweep in their four-game home series.

Grant McCray, in his first big-league game, recorded his first two hits, including a home run, to help the Giants secure the victory. Casey Schmitt also homered for San Francisco. Webb (11-8) was nearly untouchable, allowing just four hits and one walk while striking out seven.

Atlanta’s starter Max Fried (7-7) was charged with three runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings, walking three and striking out five.

The Oakland Athletics completed an impressive comeback, overcoming a five-run deficit to defeat the New York Mets 7-6 in the decisive game of their three-game interleague series.
