Hurricanes 6, Flyers 4
Martin Necas scored the game-winner with 31 seconds left in regulation to lift the Carolina Hurricanes over the Philadelphia Flyers in Raleigh. Necas, who also recorded an assist, extended his hot streak to 20 points in the past 10 games as the Hurricanes celebrated their seventh straight win.
Jackson Blake, Eric Robinson, Jordan Martinook, and Jack Roslovic also scored for Carolina, while Seth Jarvis sealed the game with an empty-netter. Travis Konecny led the Flyers with two goals and two assists, but Aleksei Kolosov’s 29 saves couldn’t prevent Philadelphia from dropping the opener of their three-game road trip.
Maple Leafs 4, Bruins 0
Morgan Rielly contributed a goal and two assists, and Anthony Stolarz earned his first shutout of the season as the Toronto Maple Leafs took down the Boston Bruins. Stolarz turned aside 29 shots, securing his ninth career shutout and ending Toronto’s eight-game losing streak against Boston dating back to January 2023.
William Nylander and Matthew Knies each recorded a goal and an assist for Toronto, while Jeremy Swayman made 23 saves for the Bruins, who saw their two-game win streak end.
Jets 3, Utah 0
Nino Niederreiter scored twice and Connor Hellebuyck recorded his second shutout of the season as the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Utah Hockey Club. Hellebuyck made 21 saves, securing his 39th career shutout as Winnipeg continued their franchise-best 12-1-0 start.
The Jets overcame an early two-goal deficit, with Gabriel Vilardi also scoring and Adam Lowry notching two assists. Utah’s Karel Vejmelka stopped 25 shots in a solid outing despite the loss.
Flames 3, Canadiens 2 (OT)
Matt Coronato scored both the tying goal late in the third and the winner seven seconds into overtime as the Calgary Flames edged the Montreal Canadiens. Coronato, who forced OT with his first goal, capitalized on a turnover off the faceoff to net the game-winner and his first career overtime goal.
Connor Zary added a goal, and Dustin Wolf made 21 saves for Calgary. Montreal’s Joel Armia had a goal and an assist, but Sam Montembeault’s 33 saves couldn’t fend off Calgary’s late surge.
