Sunday’s NHL action featured some thrilling games, including a comeback win for the Winnipeg Jets and a strong showing by the New York Rangers. Meanwhile, the Carolina Hurricanes extended their winning streak, and the Boston Bruins notched another shutout. Here’s a full breakdown of the key matchups.


Jets 7, Lightning 4

Dylan Samberg scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period, and the Winnipeg Jets pulled away for a 7-4 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Jets overcame a 2-0 deficit to secure an 11-1-0 record, the best start in franchise history.

With the score tied at 4-4, Kyle Connor set up Samberg, who fired a point shot past Jonas Johansson (27 saves). Nikolaj Ehlers and Cole Perfetti added empty-net goals to seal the victory. Winnipeg also got goals from Vladislav Namestnikov, Logan Stanley, Mark Scheifele, and Alex Iafallo.

Nikita Kucherov led the Lightning with a goal and an assist, but Tampa Bay lost its second straight game after a three-game winning streak.

Rangers 5, Islanders 2

Artemi Panarin scored twice, and the New York Rangers never trailed in a 5-2 win over the New York Islanders at Madison Square Garden. Chris Kreider opened the scoring, and Vincent Trocheck notched his 200th career goal early in the second period. Adam Edstrom added a third-period goal to cap off the win.

The Islanders got goals from Casey Cizikas and Brock Nelson, but they have now lost five of their last seven games. Ilya Sorokin made 35 saves for the Islanders.


Hurricanes 4, Capitals 2

Dmitry Orlov scored twice, and Martin Necas tallied a goal and two assists as the Carolina Hurricanes won their sixth straight game, defeating the Washington Capitals 4-2. Andrei Svechnikov secured the win with an empty-net goal with eight seconds left.

Pyotr Kochetkov made 19 saves for Carolina, while Charlie Lindgren turned away 41 shots for Washington, who saw their three-game win streak come to an end. Alex Ovechkin and Brandon Duhaime scored for the Capitals.


Wild 2, Maple Leafs 1 (OT)

Matt Boldy delivered the game-winner 2:14 into overtime, lifting the Minnesota Wild over the Toronto Maple Leafs in Saint Paul. Ryan Hartman scored the only regulation goal for the Wild, who improved to 8-3-0 on the season. Jared Spurgeon contributed two assists.

William Nylander scored for Toronto, while Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner added assists. The Maple Leafs have lost both games of their back-to-back set.

Bruins 2, Kraken 0

Jeremy Swayman stopped all 23 shots he faced, and the Boston Bruins recorded their second consecutive shutout, defeating the Seattle Kraken 2-0. Justin Brazeau and Charlie Coyle scored first-period goals for Boston, which has won three of its last five games.

Seattle goalie Joey Daccord made 31 saves in his Massachusetts homecoming, but the Kraken have now been shut out in consecutive games and have lost three straight.


Oilers 4, Flames 2

Zach Hyman scored the decisive goal in the third period, and Leon Draisaitl contributed a goal and two assists to lead the Edmonton Oilers past the Calgary Flames 4-2. Jeff Skinner and Mattias Janmark also scored for Edmonton, while goalie Stuart Skinner made 29 saves.

Anthony Mantha and Yegor Sharangovich found the net for Calgary, which has only one win in its last six outings. Dan Vladar made 27 saves for the Flames.

Blackhawks 4, Ducks 2

Arvid Soderblom made 37 saves, helping the Chicago Blackhawks secure a 4-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks. Connor Bedard recorded three assists, and Taylor Hall added two assists for Chicago, which has won three of its last four games.

Anaheim got goals from Brock McGinn and Mason McTavish, but Lukas Dostal‘s 25 saves were not enough to prevent the Ducks from dropping four of their last five games.
