Sabres Spoil Crosby’s Record Night with Rout of Penguins

Jiri Kulich scored twice and the Buffalo Sabres rolled past the Pittsburgh Penguins 7-3, overshadowing a historic night for Sidney Crosby. With a goal in the loss, Crosby became the first player in NHL history to average at least one point per game in 20 different seasons, surpassing Wayne Gretzky.

Tage Thompson, Peyton Krebs, Tyson Kozak, and Alex Tuch all posted multi-point efforts for Buffalo, which has won five of its past seven. James Reimer stopped 23 shots in net. Tristan Jarry was pulled after allowing four goals on 12 shots.

Blake Lizotte and Kevin Hayes also scored for Pittsburgh, which has dropped three straight.

Guentzel, Kucherov Power Lightning in 8-0 Rout of Utah

Jake Guentzel scored twice and Nikita Kucherov tallied a goal and three assists as the Tampa Bay Lightning steamrolled Utah 8-0. Goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy made 25 saves for his sixth shutout of the season and 40th of his career.

Brayden Point scored his 300th career goal, Oliver Bjorkstrand netted a pair, and Victor Hedman had three points. Karel Vejmelka allowed four goals on 11 shots before being pulled for Jaxson Stauber. Utah was outshot 33-25 and has now lost back-to-back games.

Necas, Avalanche Shut Out Kings

Martin Necas scored twice and Mackenzie Blackwood turned in a 22-save shutout as the Colorado Avalanche blanked the Los Angeles Kings 4-0. Logan O’Connor and Jonathan Drouin added goals, while Nathan MacKinnon extended his home point streak to 23 games with an assist.

Colorado’s fourth straight win came with a dominant second period, where the Avs scored three times. The Kings’ four-game win streak ended despite 22 saves from David Rittich.

Blues Rally Past Predators for Eighth Straight Win

Dylan Holloway scored twice, including the game-winner late in the third period, as the St. Louis Blues came from behind to beat the Nashville Predators 3-2. St. Louis has now won eight straight and is charging toward a playoff spot.

Robert Thomas had two assists and Joel Hofer made 16 saves. Nashville got goals from Fedor Svechkov and Brady Skjei, but dropped its sixth game in eight (2-5-1). Juuse Saros stopped 18 shots.

Schwartz, Kraken Blast Oilers with 5-Goal Second Period

Jaden Schwartz scored twice and Seattle exploded for five second-period goals to rout the Edmonton Oilers 6-1. Jani Nyman, Jared McCann, Andrei Burakovsky, and Matty Beniers also found the net as the Kraken ended a three-game slide in emphatic fashion.

Joey Daccord made 36 saves in net. Edmonton’s lone goal came from Zach Hyman, while goaltenders Calvin Pickard and Olivier Rodrigue combined for 32 saves.

Flyers Respond to Coaching Change with Win Over Canadiens

Sean Couturier and Matvei Michkov each scored twice as the Flyers defeated the Canadiens 6-4 in their first game under interim coach Brad Shaw, following John Tortorella’s dismissal earlier in the day. Tyson Foerster and Nicolas Deslauriers added goals as Philadelphia snapped a six-game losing streak.

Samuel Ersson stopped 26 shots for the Flyers. Montreal, now winless in four (0-2-2), got goals from Alex Newhook, Cole Caufield, Christian Dvorak, and Patrik Laine.

Stars Extend Streak, Drop Flames in Calgary

Dallas picked up its fourth consecutive win with a 5-2 road victory over Calgary, getting goals from Matt Duchene, Roope Hintz, Mikael Granlund, and Mikko Rantanen — each adding an assist as well.

Casey DeSmith was stellar with 46 saves, while Calgary’s Nazem Kadri scored twice. The Flames’ four-game winning streak came to an end.

Wild Take Down Capitals Behind Gaudreau’s Brace

Frederick Gaudreau scored twice and Matt Boldy had a goal and an assist to lead the Minnesota Wild past the Washington Capitals 4-2. Minnesota halted a two-game slide with the win at home.

Washington received goals from Matt Roy and Brandon Duhaime, but Alex Ovechkin was held scoreless. Ovechkin remains at 889 career goals, five away from Gretzky’s all-time mark.

Senators Edge Red Wings in Key Wild Card Clash

Ottawa built a 4-1 lead and held off a late surge from Detroit to win 4-3 and claim the season series. Linus Ullmark made 31 saves and Thomas Chabot, Tim Stutzle, David Perron, and Michael Amadio all scored for the Senators, who lead the Eastern wild card race.

Lucas Raymond led the Red Wings with a goal and assist, while Patrick Kane and Vladimir Tarasenko also found the net.

Celebrini Lifts Sharks in Shootout Over Maple Leafs

Top prospect Macklin Celebrini scored the shootout winner as San Jose outlasted the Toronto Maple Leafs 6-5. Tyler Toffoli scored twice in regulation and William Eklund had a goal and assist for the Sharks.

Toronto scored twice in the final minute to force overtime, with goals from Auston Matthews and Scott Laughton. William Nylander added two goals and Mitch Marner recorded three assists, but the Leafs fell short despite taking sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Division.
