NHL roundup: Surging Canes pull away from Flyers

Carolina Hurricanes 4, Philadelphia Flyers 1

The Hurricanes continued their scorching run, claiming their 12th win in 14 games with a road victory over the Flyers. Sebastian Aho led the charge with a goal and an assist, including a crucial third-period tally that gave Carolina a lead it wouldn’t relinquish.

Carolina broke the game open with three goals in the first seven minutes of the third period, further extending their dominance with a 12-2 scoring margin across their past three contests. Pyotr Kochetkov stopped 18 shots in the victory.

Ryan Poehling netted Philadelphia’s lone goal, while Ivan Fedotov turned aside 33 shots but couldn’t hold off Carolina’s relentless attack. The Flyers have now dropped two straight after a solid 4-0-1 stretch.

Seattle Kraken 3, Nashville Predators 0

Joey Daccord posted his first shutout of the season, making 24 saves as the Kraken blanked the visiting Predators. Brandon Montour recorded a goal and an assist, and Daniel Sprong found the net for the first time in his second stint with Seattle.

Yanni Gourde capped the scoring with an empty-net goal, and Chandler Stephenson dished out three assists to fuel Seattle’s offense. The Kraken wrapped up an impressive 5-1-0 homestand, with Daccord securing all five wins.

Juuse Saros stood tall for Nashville with 33 saves, but the Predators concluded their road trip with a disappointing 1-2-2 record.


Dallas Stars 5, San Jose Sharks 2

Jason Robertson recorded a goal and two assists to lead the Stars past the Sharks in Dallas. Roope Hintz and Wyatt Johnston each contributed a goal and an assist, while Jamie Benn and Evgenii Dadonov also found the back of the net for the Stars, who have won four of their last five games.

Jake Oettinger made 21 saves for Dallas, effectively stifling San Jose’s offensive efforts. Mikael Granlund and Jake Walman tallied for the Sharks, but their struggles continued with just one win in their past five games.


Toronto Maple Leafs 3, Vegas Golden Knights 0

Fraser Minten scored his first career NHL goal, and Joseph Woll delivered a stellar 31-save performance for his first shutout of the season as Toronto blanked Vegas.

William Nylander chipped in with a goal and an assist, extending his strong season, while Pontus Holmberg added an empty-netter to seal the win. The Maple Leafs have now won three straight and six of their last seven contests.

Adin Hill made 23 saves for Vegas, which has dropped two consecutive games to start its five-game road trip.

Buffalo Sabres 1, Los Angeles Kings 0

Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made a triumphant return from injury, stopping all 23 shots he faced to earn his sixth career shutout as the Sabres edged the Kings.

Jason Zucker scored the game’s lone goal early in the third period, redirecting Rasmus Dahlin’s point shot for his 200th NHL goal. The Sabres improved to 4-0-0 since Nov. 5, with Luukkonen solidifying his role as a key contributor.

David Rittich turned aside 18 shots for Los Angeles, but the Kings have now lost three of their last four games.
