NRFI bets, or No Runs First Inning wagers, are one of the most popular bets among sports bettors. If you have never placed NRFI bets, you might want to consider looking into them. The wager itself is pretty self-explanatory. Bettors are betting on each team not scoring a run in the first inning. If at the end of the first inning the score is 0-0, all NRFI bets win. If either team scores a run, the NRFI bets lose.
What’s great about NRFI bets is that bettors don’t have to wait for the entire game to find out whether they won or lost. As soon as the first inning ends, NRFI bets can be graded and some sportsbooks, depending upon your wager, will pay out your winnings before the game has ended. If you haven’t dabbled in NRFI bets, it’s important to get an understanding of how to attack them.
How to Make Good NRFI Bets
Remember, NRFI bets are bets on zero runs being scored in the first inning by either team. You would think that NRFI bets are driven by pitching matchups. You would be correct, but just because an elite pitcher goes up against another elite pitcher doesn’t mean you have the makings of a good NRFI bet.
Oddsmakers will bake the pitching matchup into the odds. You might see some weird juice on some of these NRFI bets. You should also consider the matchup between pitcher and hitters. Keep in mind that the best hitters are usually at the top of a batting order. That means they will hit in the first inning.
Typically, pitchers with a low WHIP – meaning they don’t give up a lot of baserunners – and a high strikeout rate are ones to back in NRFI bets. You also want a pitcher that has a low home run rate. A first inning homer is a NRFI bets killer.
You should also take the time to look at some NRFI bets stats. For example, in 2024 so far the Seattle Mariners and Chicago White Sox have the highest percentage of NRFIs at 65 percent. For the Mariners, their pitching has been outstanding, but they are a bottom-10 scoring team. The White Sox are the worst team in baseball and don’t score much at all. On the other end, the Colorado Rockies have the lowest NRFI bets percentage at 27 percent.

Yesterday, it was Scott’s Picks that topped our leaderboard. He went 4-0 on baseball picks and 5-0 overall. Chris “Dirty” Dyer has made the Top 5 his favorite destination. He hit it again last night and a few more Sports Hub exclusive cappers were also among yesterday’s best.
Here’s what yesterday’s Top 5 looked like.
- I’m No. 1: Scott’s Picks went a perfect 5-0 and nailed a couple plus-money MLB run line bets to cash out $575. The 4-0 MLB mark makes Scott’s Picks our No. 2 MLB capper over the past seven days with $1229 in baseball profits. Scott’s Picks is up $874 for the last three days and $1212 for the last seven.
- 2nd place is the first loser, but not here: Second on the board means you’ve won and that’s exactly what Dirty Dyer did yesterday. He hit 8 of 11 picks and took home $490. He’s now at the top of the 3-day leaderboard ($930) and 7-day leaderboard ($1960). He’s our No. 3 MLB capper over the last seven days with $1160 in baseball profits.
- You’ve got to ride Sas Insider: If you haven’t backed Sas Insider’s picks recently, you’ve got issues. Sas Insider went 10-7 yesterday and earned $250. That makes $648 for the last three days, $1788 for the last seven, and $6162 for the last 30. If you’re making NRFI bets or any other baseball wagers, Sas Insider is our top MLB capper over the last seven days ($1641).
- The Big Babowski: Bobby Babowski went 2-0 yesterday and hit on the Yankees upset of Baltimore. Bobby cashed out $242.
- I’ll take the Yankees too: Gino de Luca also hit on the Yankees at +135. He hit both of his picks yesterday (both MLB) and profited $235.
- Four Sports Hub cappers win $200: Four more Sports Hub exclusive cappers – names you probably recognize – went 2-0 and earned $200 yesterday. They were Ryan Davis, Dan Jones, Joe Berra, and Patrick Doyle.
