Matchweek 8 Premier League Results

What better way to begin our Premier League Matchweek 8 report than by looking at the weekend’s results? Once again, the EPL did not disappoint throughout Matchweek 8, with standout results popping up across the board.

  • Luton Town 0-1 Tottenham Hotspur
  • Fulham 3-1 Sheffield United
  • Burnley 1-4 Chelsea
  • Manchester United 2-1 Brentford
  • Everton 3-0 Bournemouth
  • Crystal Palace 0-0 Nottingham Forest
  • Brighton & Hove Albion 2-2 Liverpool
  • West Ham United 2-2 Newcastle United
  • Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-1 Aston Villa
  • Arsenal 1-0 Manchester City

The Premier League saved the best for last in Matchweek 8. The heavyweight showdown between Arsenal and Manchester City was won by last season’s runner-up, with the reigning champion tasting defeat at the Emirates.

Manchester United left it late to claim all three points against Brentford, coming from behind thanks to a stoppage-time brace from Scott McTominay. There were also home wins for Fulham and Everton on Saturday.

Tottenham and Chelsea triumphed on the road, while Brighton and Liverpool served up an entertaining 2-2 draw on the south coast. Elsewhere, West Ham and Newcastle also shared the spoils in a four-goal thriller.

Premier League Matchweek 8 Report – Betting Trends

In this section of our Premier League Matchweek 8 report, we take an in-depth look at the numbers behind the action. With eight rounds of fixtures in the books, there is no shortage of stats and trends to analyze.

Not only do we discuss basic betting trends like wins/losses, latest form and recent records, but we also cover advanced stats such as BTTS ratios, over/under goals, top scorers and assists makers, and clean sheets.

Which teams remain unbeaten this season? Which sides have failed to win a single game? Who has racked up the most goals and assists? Keep reading to discover the answers to those questions.

Key Premier League Betting Trends

Let’s kick things off by going over the key Premier League betting trends after Matchweek 8. Below, we look at the unbeaten teams, winless sides, in-form teams, and more.

  • Man City suffered back-to-back league defeats for the first time since Boxing Day 2018
  • Arsenal and Tottenham both remain unbeaten in the Premier League this season (W6, D2)
  • Man Utd has not recorded a single draw in the league this term (W4, L4)
  • Sheff Utd (D1, L7) and Bournemouth (D3, L5) remain winless after Matchweek 8
  • Burnley, Luton and Brentford have each managed to win just once in the Premier League
  • Newcastle and Aston Villa have both taken 10 points from their last four games

Remarkably, Man City’s defeat to Arsenal means that Pep Guardiola’s men are on a two-game losing streak in the Premier League for the first time since 2018. On the flip side, the Gunners extend their unbeaten start to the season on Sunday.

Tottenham also remains unbeaten in 2023-24, meaning Ange Postecoglou’s team sits atop the EPL table after Matchweek 8. At the opposite end of the standings, Sheffield United and Bournemouth are still waiting for their first victories of the campaign.

Premier League Goal Trends

If you enjoy making use of the goal-based markets when betting on the EPL, this section of our Premier League Matchweek 8 report is for you. Here are the top goal trends in the EPL right now.

  • Six of the 10 Matchweek 8 clashes produced over 2.5 goals (60%)
  • Three of the 10 Matchweek 8 clashes dished up under 1.5 goals (30%)
  • Chelsea, Fulham and Everton each scored over 2.5 goals last time out
  • Brighton (21) and Newcastle (20) are the top scorers in the Premier League
  • Bournemouth (5), Sheff Utd (6) and Luton (6) are the lowest scorers
  • Arsenal (6) and Man City (6) boast the best defensive records this season
  • Sheff Utd (22) and Burnley (20) possess the worst defensive records
  • Brighton has a 100% BTTS ratio in the Premier League this term
  • The Seagulls have also seen over 2.5 goals scored in every game this season

Following Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Liverpool, Brighton is still the highest-scoring team in the Premier League. By contrast, Bournemouth has the worst offensive record, as the Cherries have netted fewer goals than Arsenal and Man City have conceded.

The Seagulls are the only team in the division with a 100% BTTS ratio this season, while each of their eight matches has produced over 2.5 goals. You simply cannot ignore Brighton when it comes to the goal-based EPL betting markets this term.

Player Stats for Premier League Betting

Three players bagged a brace during Matchweek 8, while an unexpected goalkeeper climbed to the summit of the clean sheet leaderboard. Here are all the useful player stats for Premier League betting.

  • Mohamed Salah, Alexander Isak and Scott McTominay each scored twice in Matchweek 8
  • Erling Haaland (8) is still the top scorer in the Premier League this season
  • Son Heung-min (6) and Alexander Isak (6) are chasing Haaland in the Golden Boot race
  • No player has notched more goal involvements than Mohamed Salah (5G, 4A)
  • Ollie Watkins (4G, 4A) finds himself third in terms of goal involvements
  • James Maddison (5) and Pedro Neto (5) have provided the most assists this season
  • Sam Johnstone (4) sits atop the clean sheet leaderboard with a shutout ratio of 50%

Although Erling Haaland is enduring a goal drought by his own high standards, the Man City striker still leads the Golden Boot race. That said, Son Heung-min and Alexander Isak are hot on Haaland’s heels, with Mohamed Salah, Ollie Watkins, and James Maddison also posting impressive numbers.

In terms of goalkeepers, Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone is the only man to have kept four Premier League clean sheets this season. Six goalkeepers have achieved three shutouts, but Johnstone leads the way in that department.
