Sports Hub’s Power Rankings Are Released Daily – Sept 29

At Sports Hub, we have our own power rankings system. It’s called my daily leaderboard! We rank all of our handicappers according to the one thing that matters – performance. It’s just like any sport that uses some form of power rankings. Handicappers will develop their own systems of ranking teams too. They use these power rankings in their handicapping of games.

The NFL Uses Power Rankings

Different sports have their different forms of power rankings as well. After last night’s 34-20 win at Lambeau Field, the Detroit Lions will likely move up a little in the NFL power rankings. ESPN has their own ranking system as do other sites that cover the NFL. It’s the same for college football. There are the AP poll rankings, but there is also the Football Power Index, a form of power rankings used by ESPN.

How Power Rankings Are Developed

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. You’ve probably heard that before. In the case of power rankings, a rating system is developed based on whatever the founder deems important. Some power rankings will place an emphasis on strength of schedule. Others will put more emphasis on wins over teams with a winning record. It’s all up to the developer of the rating system.

Here at Sports Hub, we rank our handicappers a couple different ways. Our users can then sort cappers a number of different ways. If you’re looking for overall winning percentage, you can sort handicappers by winning percentage and you can do so for individual sports as well. Users can also search by winnings. This can be very helpful. Take our big winner from yesterday as an example.

As we’ll see momentarily, Geoanny Araya had a big day betting on soccer. If you were to sort our cappers based on winning percentage over the last 30 days alone, Geovanny would be near the bottom of the list at just 40 percent. However, if you sort by winnings, you’ll see that he is one of the best with over $1200 in wins! The point is to keep in mind how the power rankings are developed and what they may tell you in the end.

Geovanny Araya Leads Yesterday’s Power Rankings

As I just mentioned, Geovanny had another big day. He is one of our leading soccer experts and he had more success yesterday winning over $400. Each of our top-5 won at least $285 and the top 30 on the board were all winners yesterday.

Let’s see how our cappers did yesterday.

  • Big soccer day: Geovanny bets only on soccer. Yesterday, he went 3-2, but his picks netted him $480. That puts him up $1292 for the last 30 days. Even more impressive is Geovanny’s performance over the last two weeks. He has total winnings of $1713!
  • Sports guys: The No. 2 and 3 spots on the board were occupied by Sports Central and Sports Investors, respectively. Sports Central went 5-1 and won $390. That gives Sports Central winnings of $2797 over the last 30 days. Sports Investors went 3-0 and won $302.
  • The Bookie: With a name like The Bookie, you gotta be a winner, right? The Bookie went 3-0 yesterday and took home $300. Over the last three days, the Bookie has lost just three of 11 picks.
  • Scott is back: After topping the board yesterday, SWJ Sports put in another solid day at the window. Scott went 3-0 and won $300. He’s up $423 over the last three days.

Winners Are Trending at This Time of Year

Playoff baseball is just around the corner and there are still spots to be won. The Orioles already clinched their spot in the postseason. The Detroit Lions are for real as they proved last night on Thursday Night Football. A win over Green Bay will surely move the Lions up in the latest NFL power rankings.

There’s plenty trending in the sports world. Let’s check it out.

  • Orioles: Baltimore beat the Boston Red Sox 2-0 last night. The win was the 100th of the season for the Orioles and it moved them up in the latest MLB power rankings. This is the sixth time in franchise history that the O’s have won 100 games. Four of the previous five times, they played in the World Series.
  • Dan Campbell: The Lions head coach and his team are basking in a 34-20 victory over the Green Bay Packers. Detroit took over sole possession of first place in the NFC North with a 3-1 record. It was the Lions fourth straight win over the Packers and sixth straight division win.
  • LaPorta: Speaking of the Lions, they drafted a rookie tight end out of Iowa this year – Sam LaPorta. Last night, LaPorta had four catches for 56 yards. That gives him 22 receptions in four games so far. He’s on pace for 93 catches this season.
  • Fired: Finally, Michigan State pulled the trigger and fired Mel Tucker. Since MSU suspended Tucker, the Spartans have been outscored 72-16. They lost both games and now they play at Iowa on Saturday. Harlan Barnett is the interim head coach.

Of course, Sports Hub handicappers are working hard to deliver you the best picks in the business. Check the members’ area before you place your bets.

Let’s check out what’s on tap today.

  1. This is it: The final series of the 2023 MLB season is here. Throw out your power rankings and play ball. A handful of these series will impact the final spots in the playoffs. Miami closes at Pittsburgh. The Cubs are in Milwaukee. Texas and Seattle continue their battle and by the time it’s all done on Sunday, we should have a playoff field.
  2. Friday night lights: There is a huge matchup in college football tonight. No. 10 Utah plays at No. 19 Oregon State. Utah QB Cam Rising may or may not play. Tonight’s winner will probably move up in the college football power rankings. Three other games are on the schedule too. Check the members’ area for any college football picks.
  3. Ryder Cup: The Ryder Cup is underway at Marco Simone Golf Club in Rome. The Europeans spanked the Americans in opening round play. To win the Ryder Cup, a team needs 14.5 points. The Europeans are up 4-0 already.
  1. Up north football: It’s Week 17 in the CFL and it gets underway tonight with what could be a preview of the Grey Cup. The top two teams in each division – Winnipeg in the West and Toronto in the East – will meet tonight in Winnipeg. Saskatchewan and BC play in the other game.
  2. Game 3: The best-of-five WNBA semifinals series resume tonight. New York is in Connecticut where that series is tied 1-1. Top seeded Las Vegas has dominated its series with Dallas and is up 2-0. The Aces and Liberty have been the top two teams in the WNBA’s power rankings all season.
  3. Friday night ice: There is college football tonight and there is also NHL hockey on the schedule. Eighteen of the NHL’s teams will play a preseason game tonight in preparation for the upcoming 2023-24 season. Defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado is No. 1 in the most recent NHL power rankings.
  4. Tennis: The men’s China Open and Astana Open are still going on. The WTA tour continues with the Ningbo Open and China Open in China and the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Japan. In the Toray Pan Pacific Open, top-seeded Iga Swiatek lost yesterday. No. 2 Jessica Pegula will play today in one of the semifinals.
  5. Soccer: There is soccer all over the world today, which will give our resident soccer expert Geovanny Araya another opportunity to shine. Many of the top pro leagues around the world have at least one match. Check the schedule and check the Sports Hub members’ area for the best soccer picks.

That’s an awesome Friday lineup. If we had power rankings for different days and their sports schedules, today would be pretty high up on the list. It’s gets even better tomorrow when we have a full slate of college football. That will carry us into an entire Sunday of the NFL. It’s the best time of year!
