Nimmo’s Ninth-Inning Blast Helps Mets Tie Yankees in Finale

Brandon Nimmo crushed a three-run homer in the bottom of the ninth to help the New York Mets rally for a 6-6 tie with the New York Yankees in their spring training finale in Port St. Lucie, Florida. After falling behind 6-3, the Mets capitalized on a hit batter and a walk before Nimmo belted his first homer of the spring. Despite the dramatic blow, Yankees reliever Jordany Ventura recovered to strike out the next three hitters and secure the draw.

The Yankees built their lead with a three-run seventh and a solo shot from Spencer Jones in the eighth. Pablo Reyes stayed red-hot with a 3-for-3 performance, including a solo homer and two runs scored. Brett Baty and Pete Alonso also homered for the Mets, who open the regular season Thursday in Houston. The Yankees will play a final exhibition in Miami against the Marlins on Tuesday before beginning the season at home Thursday versus the Brewers.

The Philadelphia Phillies capped their spring with a strong offensive showing in Clearwater, collecting 13 hits en route to an 8-6 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. A four-run sixth inning proved decisive, fueled by RBI doubles from Rafael Marchan, Johan Rojas — who drove in two — and Edmundo Sosa.

Kyle Schwarber, Max Kepler, and Marcus Lee Sang also contributed run-scoring doubles earlier in the game. Josh Lowe delivered a two-run double for the Rays, and Taylor Walls added an RBI double, but Tampa Bay couldn’t keep pace late.
