TNF Features NFC North Battle at Lambeau Field – Sept 28

The Detroit Lions travel to Lambeau Field tonight for an NFC North showdown on Thursday Night Football. Both teams are 2-1 and sit atop the division. The Packers are in their first season post Aaron Rodgers. Jordan Love, who the team drafted in 2020, is Green Bay’s starting quarterback and he’s done a decent job so far. He has only thrown one interception and has seven touchdown passes. He won his first start at Lambeau Field last week bringing the Packers back from a 17-point deficit to defeat the Saints 18-17.

The Lions and Packers Meet Tonight at Lambeau Field

The last time the Lions visited Lambeau Field, it didn’t go so well for the Packers. It was Week 18 of last season. Green Bay still had a chance at making the playoffs. The Packers scored to take a 16-13 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Detroit RB Jamaal Williams scored on a one-yard run with 5:55 to play in the game to give the Lions a 20-16 victory. Our computer predictions nailed that one! Still, Green Bay holds a distinct advantage over Detroit when playing at home. The Packers have won 24 of the last 28 against the Lions and hold a 35-14-3 lead all-time in games played at Lambeau Field.

Here’s a look at yesterday’s leaderboard.

  • Big winner: As mentioned, it was SWJ Sports who topped the board yesterday. Scott at SWJ Sports went 6-2 on eight MLB picks. His winnings totaled $405. Last week, Scott went 4-1 on his NCAA football picks. It’s worth checking to see if he has any CFB picks for tonight.
  • Back again: Knup Sports is back in the top-3, hitting on 6 of 9 picks – all baseball. With $300 in winnings, Knup Sports has a three-day total of $575! Do they have a pick for tonight’s game at Lambeau Field.
  • Two peas in a pod: Mike Kelly and Bobby Babowsi each went 3-0 yesterday and won $300. If you’ve been reading my daily report, these are names you would recognize. Bobby is actually up $1234 for the last seven days and Mike is winning at a 58.3 percent clip over the past 60 days. Both guys have MLB picks for tonight’s games.
  • More Sports Hub experts: Robert Ferguson and James Acker are also names you should recognize. Both went 3-0 and won $300 last night. Robert is 17-8 with his CFB picks since Sept 3. He has a pick for tonight’s Temple-Tulsa game. James is ranked No. 20 among our MLB cappers and has a number of football picks in the system already for this weekend.

Trades, Jerseys, an MVP and Some Cash Money

While we await tonight’s Lambeau Field clash, we take a look at some trending sports news. If you didn’t hear, there was a blockbuster NBA trade yesterday. Three teams were involved. One of the NBA’s all-time greats is also among the trending news. Money is always trending in professional sports, but it doesn’t always buy championships. We’re seeing big proof of that this year in MLB.

Let’s examine what’s trending in the sports world today.

  • Dame Time: Damian Lillard is moving onto Milwaukee, which is not far from Lambeau Field! Pairing a player of Lillard’s caliber with Giannis Antetokounmpo is going to be fun to watch. The trade was a huge three-team deal between the Bucks, Trail Blazers, and the Suns. Jrue Holiday and Deandre Ayton end up in Portland as a result.
  • Ronald Acuna Jr.: If Acuna doesn’t win the NL MVP, something is definitely wrong. Acuna stole his 70th base last night to become the founding member of MLB’s 40-70 club. Yep, 40 homers (41 actually) and 70 steals. Acuna is the first and only MLB player to do it.
  • Wilt’s jersey: Want a Wilt Chamberlain jersey from the 1972 NBA playoffs? One just sold for a record $4.9 million at an auction last night. Chamberlain wore the jersey in Games 2 and 5 as the Lakers beat the New York Knicks. It was the Lakers first NBA title since moving to LA from Minneapolis. Chamberlain won his first and only NBA Finals MVP that season.
  • No Messi: Lionel Messi remained out of the Inter Miami CF lineup last night. His team lost to the Houston Dynamo in the US Open Cup. Messi has had a huge impact on Miami, scoring 11 goals and assisting on five others. The biggest impact is that Miami hasn’t lost a match in which Messi played. Miami is five points behind New York City FC for the final playoff spot with five games to play.
  • Money for nothing: The Mets, Padres, and Yankees spent $880 million this season on player salaries. All three teams will not make the playoffs. Instead, teams like Tampa Bay, Baltimore, and Arizona – with bottom-10 payrolls – will play in the MLB postseason.

Temple plays at Tulsa in an AAC game and Conference USA gives us two more. Middle Tennessee plays at Western Kentucky in the first conference game for both teams. The two newest FBS members – Jacksonville State and Sam Houston – play tonight too.
  2. College soccer: In addition to college football, there are a ton of games in NCAA women’s soccer, none at Lambeau Field though.
  3. International soccer: Check the members’ area for soccer picks. There are several high-level matches in some of the world’s best professional leagues like La Liga in Spain and Serie A in Italy.
  4. More preseason hockey: The NHL continues its preseason. There are six games tonight, including one between defending Stanley Cup champion Colorado and Minnesota. Teams continue their preparations for the upcoming 2023-24 NHL season.
  5. Baseball: After losing to Houston last night, the Seattle Mariners begin their final series of the season. In order to make the postseason, they will have to do some damage against AL West Division leader Texas. The Marlins, Cubs, Reds, Diamondbacks, and Padres are all still alive in the National League playoff race.
  6. Tennis: The men’s China Open and Astana Open are currently being played. The WTA tour continues with the Ningbo Open and China Open in China and the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Japan. World No. 2 Iga Swiatek and No. 4 Jessica Pegula are the top two seeds in the Pan Pacific Open. Both play today.

All in all, this is a nice lineup of sports for the last Thursday in September. Some key MLB games, preseason hockey, college football, and an NFL divisional battle at Lambeau Field. It only gets better as we get closer to another weekend full of college and pro football. Make sure you prepare yourself with Sports Hub’s Week 4 NFL picks page and our Week 5 NCAA football picks page. Both are full of great content and best picks for the weekend’s games. For now, enjoy your Thursday and stop back tomorrow for another recap of how our expert handicappers did.
