Texas Tech 111, Arizona State 106 (2OT)
JT Toppin scored a career-high 41 points and came up with a pivotal steal with 33 seconds left in the second overtime, lifting No. 12 Texas Tech to a 111-106 victory over Arizona State on Wednesday in Lubbock, Texas.
Toppin tallied eight of his points across the two extra periods, finishing 17 of 22 from the floor and grabbing a game-high 15 rebounds. His dunk off a Darrion Williams assist gave the Red Raiders (19-5, 10-3 Big 12) a three-point edge with under a minute left in the final OT.
Shawn Phillips Jr. pulled the Sun Devils (12-12, 3-10) within one on a late jumper, but Texas Tech sank four of six free throws in the closing seconds to secure the triumph.
With fewer than 20 seconds left in the first OT and the score knotted, Texas Tech’s Christian Anderson forced a turnover near midcourt, seemingly paving the way for a game-winner by Kerwin Walton. However, Phillips hustled back to swat Walton’s layup off the glass, sending the matchup to a second overtime.
