The UFC is back in Canada this weekend and we have identified the best UFC 289 picks. The main card is pay-per-view (PPV). UFC 289 will take place at the Rogers Centre in Vancouver, Canada.

The last UFC event in Vancouver was UFC Fight Night 158 on September 14th, 2019.

How to Access All of My UFC 289 Picks

I’ve provided a few of my UFC 289 picks in this preview. However, to access all of my predictions for the fight card, you need to sign-up for a free Sports Hub account (email required). After you open an account, visit the handicapper rankings page and search for “SWJ Sports” to get all of my UFC 289 picks.

UFC 289 Preview

When: Saturday, June 10th 2023

Time: Early Prelims (7:00 PM ET) / Prelims (8:00 PM ET) / Main Card (10:00 PM ET)

Watch: Early Prelims (UFC Fight Pass) / Prelims (ESPN / TSN) / Main Card (PPV)

There are ten ranked fighters on the UFC 289 card. The main event will feature Amanda Nunes (C) vs. Irene Aldana (#5) for the UFC Women’s Bantamweight title. The co-main event will pit Charles Oliveria (#1) against Beneil Dariush (#4) at lightweight with the winner likely getting a shot at the title.

There are five Canadians on the card, including Mike Malott, Marc-Andre Barriault, Aiemann Zahabi, Kyle Nelson and Jasmine Jasudavicius. None of the Canadians are currently ranked.

UFC 289 Picks

Here are a few of my UFC 289 picks. I’ve included one main card fight, one prelims fight and one early prelims fight in this preview. Sign-up for a free Sports Hub account to access all of my predictions for tomorrow’s PPV event. Search for “SWJ Sports” to access all of my plays. I released nine plays for UFC Vegas 74 and went 6-3 (+$175). We’re going to turn an even bigger profit for UFC 289 on Saturday.

Mike Malott vs. Adam Fugitt Free Pick

Fight Odds: Malott (-210) vs. Fugitt (+170)

There has been a lot of talk about this fight being on the main card. I’m fine with the decision, as this is an excellent opportunity for Mike Malott (9-1-1) to generate some momentum at welterweight.

Malott is 2-0 in the UFC with first-round wins against Mickey Gall (TKO) and Yohan Lainesse (Sub).

Adam Fugitt (9-3) is 1-1 in the UFC. He lost his debut to Michael Morales (TKO in 3rd round), but he was able to bounce back with a first-round TKO win against Yusaku Kinoshita in February.

Malott has 11 career fights and ten of them have ended in the first round. Fugitt went the distance in two of his first three career professional fights, but hasn’t gone the distance in his last nine fights. Malott has a great team (Team Alpha Male), fought the better competition and will have the home crowd behind him.

Best Bet: Mike Malott ML (-210)

Miranda Maverick vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius Free Pick

Fight Odds: Maverick (-313) vs. Jasudavicius (+243)

Miranda Maverick (11-4) is 4-2 in the UFC and she’s only 25 years old. Jasmine Jasudavicius (8-2) is 2-1 since joining the UFC last year, but she’s already 34 years old.

Maverick averages more strikes (3.74 SLpM vs. 2.92 SLpM), has better defense (2.53 SApM vs. 3.85 SApM) and lands more takedowns (2.70 TDs per 15 minutes vs. 2.50 takedowns per 15 minutes).

Maverick has two stoppage wins in six UFC fights. Jasudavicius has gone the distance in her three UFC fights and her last six fights total. The Canadian is durable, but winning this fight will be tough.

Best Bet: Miranda Maverick ML (-313)

David Dvorak vs. Stephen Erceg Free Pick

Fight Odds: Dvorak (-282) vs. Erceg (+217)

David Dvorak (20-5) is ranked #10 at flyweight despite losing his last two fights by decision. Prior to the two losses, Dvorak had won 16 fights in a row, including his first three UFC fights.

Stephen Erceg (9-1) is making his UFC debut after going 7-0 with Eternal MMA (EMMA).

Dvorak needs to win this fight and I believe he will. Erceg has six submission wins, but Dvorak is tough to takedown (81% takedown defense). Dvorak also has good striking defense (59%). As long as he can avoid getting tapped out, Dvorak will take over in the second and third rounds to win this fight.

Best Bet: David Dvorak ML (-282)

UFC 289 Odds for Every Fight
