With the European Championship now just a matter of months away, it’s time to start thinking about which teams have a chance to win Euro 2024.

The month-long tournament is set to take place in Germany across June and July. After defeating England in the previous final, Italy is the defending champion, but the Italians are not among the favorites to lift the trophy this time around.

Below, I take a closer look at the bookies’ favorites and potential sleepers for Euro 2024. Before we go any further, though, let’s check out the latest outright odds.

Latest Euro 2024 Outright Odds

  • England (+350)
  • France (+400)
  • Germany (+700)
  • Portugal (+800)
  • Spain (+800)
  • Belgium (+1400)
  • Italy (+1600)
  • Netherlands (+2000)
  • Turkey (+3300)
  • Croatia (+4000)
  • Denmark (+4000)

  • Hungary (+8000)
  • Scotland (+8000)
  • Switzerland (+8000)

  • Poland (+12500)
  • Romania (+15000)
  • Wales (+15000)
  • Greece (+20000)

  • Estonia (+250000)

As you can see, England is the bookies’ favorite to lift the trophy next summer. Having made it all the way to the final last time around, the Three Lions will be eager to go one better in Germany.

That said, France sits just below England at the summit of the odds list. Didier Deschamp’s men have enjoyed unrivalled success in recent years, reaching the Euro 2016 showpiece before featuring in back-to-back World Cup finals.

Germany, Portugal and Spain are all priced between +700 and +800. The Germans could benefit from home-field advantage at Euro 2024, while Portugal and Spain will aim to build on their past European Championship triumphs.

Belgium, Italy and the Netherlands will also fancy their chances of securing the silverware, although the bookies have a clear top five at this stage.

Assessing the Euro 2024 Favorites

It only makes sense to start with the Euro 2024 favorites, right? We have seen a couple of memorable European Championship upsets over the years, but the top teams usually prevail.

While England and France are the obvious frontrunners, I also want to include Germany in this section. Germany’s roster may not be as strong as England or France’s, but you shouldn’t underestimate the power of home-field advantage.

Without further ado, let’s take a closer look at the bookies’ favorites to secure the Euro 2024 silverware, starting with England.

Will England Live Up to the Hype?

Under the guidance of Gareth Southgate, England has enjoyed multiple deep runs in major tournaments. After reaching the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup, the Three Lions finished as Euro 2020 runners-up before making it to the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Cup.

England has always boasted a strong roster, but the current crop of superstars is arguably among the best in history. With world-class performers like Harry Kane, Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice at the peak of their powers, the Three Lions are expected to mount a serious charge for the Euro 2024 crown.

The biggest challenge will be overcoming the mental barrier that previous generations have failed to conquer. If Southgate’s men forget about the past and focus on the task at hand, they could achieve something special in Germany.

Can France Go the Distance Again?

It goes without saying that France will be desperate to bounce back from last year’s World Cup final loss against Argentina. The 2018 World Cup champions failed to defend their crown, but they know what it takes to triumph at major tournaments.

Like England, France is blessed with a host of world-class players. Spearheaded by the seemingly unstoppable Kylian Mbappe – who has scored 46 goals in 75 games for his country – Les Bleus possess stars like Antoine Griezmann, Kingsley Coman and William Saliba.

The French have reached seven major finals over the years, winning two World Cups and two European Championships along the way. Accordingly, Deschamps’ men will back themselves to go all the way next summer.

Could Germany Triumph on Home Soil?

It would not be unfair to say that Germany has endured a difficult year. The Euro 2024 hosts have played 11 friendlies in 2023, recording three wins, two draws and six losses in the process.

Following defeats to Belgium, Poland, Colombia, Japan, Turkey and Austria, Julian Nagelsmann replaced Hansi Flick in the Mannschaft hot seat. However, the new manager has just two warm-up matches to work his magic before the tournament gets underway.

With high-profile players such as Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala in their ranks, the hosts will be hopeful of outperforming England and France. Feeding off the energy of their passionate fans will also give them an edge, but they will need to take care of matters on the pitch.

Potential Euro 2024 Sleepers to Consider

The European Championship has produced a couple of shock winners over the years. Denmark defied the odds to lift the trophy in 1992, while Greece stunned everyone to triumph in 2004.

For that reason, bettors need to evaluate the field before placing their Euro 2024 wagers. With a host of notable nations sitting outside the bookies’ group of favorites, there is plenty of value to be found in the Euro 2024 odds.

Here are some generously-priced outsiders to keep an eye on.

  • Italy (+1600) – Italy defeated England on penalties to win Euro 2020. The two-time European Championship winners and four-time World Cup victors have a history of winning major tournaments, making odds of +1600 look very attractive.
  • Netherlands (+2000) – The Netherlands is a sleeping giant of international soccer. Having won three World Cups and one European Championship over the years, the Dutch could upset the Euro 2024 odds, with Virgil van Dijk leading the way.
  • Croatia (+4000) – After reaching the 2018 World Cup final, Croatia made it to the semifinals in Qatar last year. As a result, stars like Luka Modric, Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol will be confident of taking their nation to the latter stages of Euro 2024.

It is also worth noting that Hungary (+8000) and Romania (+15000) both enjoyed unbeaten qualifying campaigns. If you’re looking for a Euro 2024 longshot, backing Hungary or Romania could be the way to go.

Who Will Win Euro 2024?

There is no hiding the fact that England and France are the Euro 2024 favorites for a reason. Boasting the strongest rosters in Europe, the two powerhouses of international soccer stand a great chance of going all the way next summer.

That said, the strength of the tournament makes picking a winner very difficult. With top teams such as Germany, Portugal, Spain and Belgium also vying for the title, we are set for a month of memorable action.
