Sabalenka and Kudermetova Advance to Brisbane International Final

Top-seeded Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus secured her spot in the Brisbane International final with a commanding 6-3, 6-2 victory over eighth-seeded Mirra Andreeva of Russia. Sabalenka, a two-time Australian Open champion, saved five break points in the opening set and recorded three aces to dispatch the 17-year-old in 89 minutes. The win marked a measure of revenge for Sabalenka, who had fallen to Andreeva in the French Open quarterfinals last year.

In the other semifinal, Polina Kudermetova of Russia defeated Ukraine’s Anhelina Kalinina 6-4, 6-3. Kudermetova delivered six aces despite seven double faults, closing out the match in 85 minutes.

Sabalenka and Kudermetova will meet in the final of the WTA 500 season-opening event in Australia.
