Elsewhere, No. 3 seed Leylah Fernandez from Canada capitalized on seven double faults by her opponent, easing past Heather Watson of Great Britain 6-2, 6-2. No. 8 seed Cristina Bucsa of Spain also moved forward with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Hong Kong’s Hong Yi Cody Wong. No. 7 seed Varvara Gracheva of France had a tougher match, rallying after a challenging first set to defeat Russia’s Tatiana Prozorova 2-6, 7-5, 6-2.

Jiangxi Open
At the Jiangxi Open in Jiujiang, China, second-seeded Rebecca Sramkova of Slovakia wasted no time, winning her first-round match over China’s Shuai Zhang 6-1, 6-1. Sramkova served up nine aces and benefited from six double faults by Zhang to finish in just 48 minutes.
