Week 1 NFL Futures Report 

Let’s take a look at Week 1 NFL futures after the start of the 2023 NFL season. Week 1 is over and Week 2 is already here! That’s why we love football season – it’s non-stop action! 

Although we shouldn’t look too much into what happened in Week 1, it has still given us an indication of how teams and players may perform for the new season. Last week, we took a look at candidates to win NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year. 

This week signals the start of our NFL futures report. We will be tracking the odds for NFL futures markets such as Super Bowl winner, MVP, offensive and defensive rookie of the year and AFC and NFC champions

Week 1 NFL Futures Report – Who Were Last Season’s Winners? 

We will open our Week 1 NFL futures report with a quick recap of who won some of the futures markets last season. 

As you can see, the Chiefs dominated many of the futures markets. They won the AFC after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in the AFC Championship game. The Eagles were crowned NFC Champions after beating the 49ers in the NFC Championship game. However, I’m sure we can all remember that it was the Chiefs who would go on to beat the Eagles by a three-point margin in Super Bowl LVII. 

Mahomes was named as MVP after leading the Chiefs to Super Bowl victory. He was phenomenal in 2022, throwing a career high 5250 yards for 41 touchdowns. He led the league in TDs. 

Jets players won both Offensive and Defensive Rookie of the Year awards. Many believed them to have won the 2022 NFL Draft and their prospects lived up to the hype. Both Garrett Wilson and Sauce Gardner had fantastic rookie seasons. Continue reading our Week 1 NFL futures report to take a look at the top candidates for 2023. 

Week 1 NFL Futures Report – Markets We’re Focusing On

There’s too many futures markets to focus on them all. However, we are going to pick out some of the most popular futures markets to keep track of over the course of the season. 

Our Week 1 NFL futures report will now highlight which ones we’re taking a closer look at: 

We will be taking a look at the six aforementioned futures markets as the season progresses. There are plenty of different reasons as to why the prices for selections in these markets will change over the course of the season. 

The more games played in a season, the easier it is to identify the stronger teams and players for the year. That’s why it is important to make futures picks early in order to find the best value. The key is to find the right balance when making your picks. 

Injuries can also heavily impact the markets. Not only for the injured player but also for the rest of the market. If a strong candidate gets a season-ending injury, then he will no longer be in the running. That will also reduce the odds for the rest of the players in contention. 

Super Bowl Winner 

Our first futures market for our Week 1 NFL futures will take a look at the Super Bowl Winner. It will come as no surprise that the Chiefs are the current favorites to win the Super Bowl after they did so last season. Their Week 1 loss against the Lions hasn’t changed the market too much at this stage. Here is a list of the top ten candidates: 

Despite the Eagles reaching the Super Bowl last season, the 49ers are the current second favorites to win the Super Bowl. They looked fantastic in their victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers last Sunday. 

The Browns, Ravens and Lions are all longshots but there’s a lot of promise surrounding those teams. Deshaun Watson is now back in his full season in Cleveland and they impressed in Week 1 against the Bengals. Lamar Jackson has now been paid and looks settled in Baltimore, whilst Dan Campbell looks to be building something promising in Detroit. 

AFC Champions 

Below you can find the top five candidates to go on and win the AFC Conference in 2023: 

• Kansas City Chiefs (+375)
• Buffalo Bills (+550)
• Cincinnati Bengals (+650)
• Miami Dolphins (+850)
• Baltimore Ravens (+850)

Of course, the Chiefs lead the pack. However, that may not necessarily give you the best value at this stage. The Bills look a little short too after their loss against the Jets on Monday Night Football but they and Josh Allen have been right up there for many years now. 

Joe Burrow will look to bounce back after a poor offensive showing against the Browns in Week 1, whilst Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill looked electric for the Dolphins in their 36-34 win over the Los Angeles Chargers. 

NFC Champions 

Next up in our Week 1 NFL futures report we will be taking a look at the candidates to win the NFC Conference in 2023. Here are the top five candidates: 

• San Francisco 49ers (+320)
• Philadelphia Eagles (+320)
• Dallas Cowboys (+500)
• Detroit Lions (+800)
• New Orleans Saints (+1300)

The 49ers arguably would have won the NFC last season if they actually had a quarterback healthy in the NFC Championship game. We could be set for a rematch this season with the Eagles joint favorites to win the conference. 

The Cowboys are third favorites and that has been helped by their staggering 40-0 Week 1 win against divisional rivals the Giants. The defense looked scary as it completely nullified Brian Daboll’s offense.

MVP 

The primary player’s NFL futures market comes in the form of MVP. It’s almost certain that a quarterback will win the award. A player from any other position hasn’t won it since 2012. Here are the odds for the top ten candidates to win MVP in 2023: 

Mahomes already has two MVP’s to his name and he is joint favorite to win the award. He is looking to win it in successive seasons and lead the Chiefs to back-to-back Super Bowl wins. 

Tua’s incredible Week 1 display saw him throw for 466 yards, three touchdowns and an interception. His rapport with Hill and Jaylen Waddle could mean he is in for a monster year, especially in Mike McDaniel’s explosive offense. 

Hill is the shortest priced player outside of quarterbacks to win MVP. It seems pretty unlikely he’ll win it but after his 215 yard and two touchdown game in Week 1, he could be worth a shot at +5000. 

Aaron Rodgers is no longer in the running after his season-ending injury. If you already picked him before the start of the season then, I guess it’s bad luck! 

Offensive Rookie of the Year

We all like to see how the new rookies will get on in their first years in the NFL. I took a look at the OROY market last week. Let’s see if the prices have changed. Here are the current odds for the top five candidates: 

• Bijan Robinson (+250) RB Atlanta Falcons 
• Anthony Richardson (+600) QB Indianapolis Colts 
• Bryce Young (+850) QB Carolina Panthers 
• Jahmyr Gibbs (+900) RB Detroit Lions
• Zay Flowers (+1100) WR Baltimore Ravens 

Bijan Robinson was the favorite before the start of the season and his price has been cut. Although he didn’t have an elite game in Week 1, he still scored a touchdown and had six receptions. His dual-threat ability sees him lead the market, especially after he demonstrated his elusiveness to score last week. 

Young’s price is longer now after he had a fairly underwhelming debut against the Falcons. He threw for just 146 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions. Richardson is now the second favorite since he had a very solid debut. The Colts QB threw for 223 yards, one touchdown and one interception. However, he also rushed for 40 yards and a touchdown. 

Defensive Rookie of the Year

The final market that we will be taking a look at in Sports Hub’s Week 1 NFL futures report is the DROY. Take a look at the odds for the top five candidates here: 

• Jalen Carter (+350) DT Philadelphia Eagles
• Will Anderson Jr. (+450) DE Houston Texans
• Christian Gonzalez (+1200) CB New England Patriots 
• Lukas Van Ness (+1400) OLB Green Bay Packers
• Jack Campbell (+1500) LB Detroit Lions 

Jalen Carter and Will Anderson Jr. are the clear favorites to win the award. They both have the potential to rack up impressive sack numbers on the defensive line. Both players managed to record a sack on their debuts. 

Patriots corner Christian Gonzalez impressed in his first game, recording seven tackles and a sack. Lukas Van Ness also has one sack on the board after Week 1.
